Dared is the fourth installment in Becca Steele's series, and I found it easy to dive into the story, even though I hadn't read the previous books. The chemistry between Finn and Leo is fantastic. Leo is a shy and anxious character who often struggles with panic attacks and feels safest behind his gaming console. Finn is a brave friend who challenges Leo to step out of his comfort zone. The story begins with a glimpse into Leo's traumatic childhood, which makes his current struggles as a student clear. Leo finds support in his online friendship with Finn, whom he knows as Hammerhead. The revelation that Finn is actually Hammerhead adds an exciting layer to their relationship.
Finn's playful challenges help Leo face his fears, from dancing on stage to inviting friends over for coffee. Their friendship grows in a natural way, with cute moments of cuddling and kissing. Leo grapples with his identity and may feel demisexual, which adds an interesting layer. The humor in their interactions, especially as they start to act like a couple, keeps the story light-hearted. The supporting characters, like Finn's younger brother Ed, add depth to the narrative.
Although Leo's issues with anxiety and self-confidence are resolved a bit too quickly by the end,

Dared is an enjoyable reading experience. It's a heartwarming story about friendship and love, with a good mix of humor and emotional depth. If you're looking for a romantic story with relatable characters, this book is definitely a recommendation!

the reason i speed ran these books is bc i wanted to read this one before another book release on the 28th

This is a low angst, high pining, medium low spice series. The book itself is not too long, and it doesn't make you think too hard. The main appeal to each book in the series in the characters. I'm writing this after reading everything but the prequel novella and I have to say, they're all very similar in my head.
That isn't a bad thing, you know what you're getting even if it's different flavors.

I really loved the premise. In execution this felt more like, is it gay to kiss your bro, kinda vibe. I can understand Leo maybe not understanding relationship dynamics because he's extremely sheltered. It's good that Finn is a footballer because the leaps and jumps to convince himself he's not in love with Leo is good exercise.

That being said, this was really simple and sweet. The way people support Leo makes me cry on the inside because damn. Wish I had that support system at Leo's age.

As a final note, this one was the least spicy but had the most fluff out of all of them. Now just the novella...
