“teddy” used to be my favorite story but now it’s “uncle wiggly in Connecticut” !
I think I love mid-century writings because everyone is trying so hard to keep their mental health and proprieties together post-WWII and it is an exhausting, conscious effort to keep vying for the happy traditional American way of life— but it’s all rotting from the inside because things have changed too much. people return from war changed and people change when they lose their loved ones and things are just DIFFERENT and society wants to say Nooo it’s so good still actually get yourself a wife and a kid! Forget what you saw out there. We’re sooo good here.

Καταπληκτικές ιστορίες... Μακάρι ο Σάλιντζερ να ήταν γνωστός ευρύτερα για αυτό το βιβλίο και όχι μόνο για τον αρκετά καλό "Catcher in the Rye". Ιστορίες με πολλά "στρώματα" και εκπληκτική χρήση της γλώσσας που δεν σε αφήνει να σταματήσεις το διάβασμα. Παρ' όλα αυτά, πρέπει κανείς να αφιερώσει τουλάχιστον 4 ημέρες για την ανάγνωσή τους έτσι ώστε να τις νιώσει και να τις "ενστερνιστεί" πλήρως. Τόσο καλές είναι. Ξεχώρισα το For Esmé-with Love and Squalor, το συγκινητικό Down at the Dinghy, το απίστευτα ατμοσφαιρικό και κρυπτικό Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes και όλες τις άλλες για να είμαι ειλικρινής! ;)

"A Perfect Day For Bananafish" and "For Esmé--with Love and Squalor" were my favorites from this collection. Salinger's style of prose has a way of pulling me in, expecting the perfectly mundane, and instead finding complete surprise within it.
