the stories are great, die übersetzung der ausgabe von 1968 leider nicht so.
No tengo muy buena experiencia con Salinger, para nada me conecté con los cuentos.
There is no question that Salinger has a way with words. Even when confined to a short story form, he does so much that you feel like you need to read it over again just so you can absorb everything that's going on. So much is said in so little time.
Each one of the stories is distinct. Some are shocking, some are strange, and some are tragic. I think the most chilling story was The Laughing Man. Most of the stories don't have an "ending". Some of them do, but most of them feel like it's just over. Which is a little disconcerting, but feels right. Maybe the rest is left up to the reader to infer, or perhaps it's just a device to show that life will keep going beyond that point.
It's also admirable how the characters feel real in their emotions and problems, considering how little is told about most of them. Many times their dialogue helps, and of course the actions they take during the story. Of course we don't know everything about them, but I think that makes what is revealed that much more powerful. We are only getting a glimpse into these peoples' lives, and the rest we can only guess or imagine.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read great short stories that leave a lot for the reader to think about later. Be warned you may be reading them more than once!

Normally I'm not a short stories fan, but this is a book very close to my heart. I don't know why it struck me the way it did, but I love these stories- they are perfect. If you enjoy Salinger I would definitely recommend this book.

They don’t seem able to love us unless they can keep changing us a little bit. They love their reasons for loving us almost as much as they love us, and most of the time more. It’s not so good, that way
I feel like I missed something.
What was the point of these stories??
v unsatisfied
Long self indulgent talks
why so many children and adults acting like children?
why is everyone trying too hard to be teasingly mysterious
(and the whole thing with bananafish leading tragic lives... eat too many bananas and die...wow what foreshadow)
seems like the book that would lead you to boycott literature written by white people for a while
the touch of darkness in the stories didn't seem real to me but then again i'm not a white male war vet with PTSD in the 1950s who creeped on some young girls so idk
