This is a slow burn of a book and it has an unsettling vibe right from the start. With the small coastal town setting and the caravan park in the winter and the strange goings on all add to whole sense of eeriness throughout the book.

The story is told in the POV’s of the caravan park owner Fran and Tad who is a traveller who is living in the field next to the caravan park.

I found Fran to be really quite strange and her obsession with the birds is all a bit odd too. I liked having the other POV and hearing things from Tad’s view. He always seemed to be watching and didn’t miss much that was going on.

As things went on I felt myself getting more and more uneasy wondering what was going to happen.

When the twists came I was absolutely shocked! Wasn’t expecting that!

If you love an unsettling read that has an eerie vibe and is a slow burn. I’d recommend  this one.

Thank you to Verve Books for having me on the tour and for my gifted copy.

Set in a small town on the beautiful Norfolk coast. Birdspotting In A Small Town is a haunting and unsettling read.

Told from the POV of its two main protagonists, Fran and Tad. Sophie has created an atmospheric, insightful, and gritty tale featuring family drama, lies, deceit, suspense, intrigue, violence, murder, mental health issues, revelations, twists, turns and a chilling mystery with well developed and multifaceted characters to help tell the story.

I did like the short chapters, as it helped the story flow well.

However, for me, it was a really slow burn for me, and I didn't find that connection that I was looking for.

But that doesn't and should detract from the great things that Sophie has done with the story, and it will be a fabulous read for those thriller/mystery lovers out there who like dark and eerie reads.

This was just one that didn't quite give me the connection I was looking for.

Fran runs a caravan park on the coast, struggling with issues in her family life. She escapes these problems by watching birds, her favourite hobby. When new people arrive in the small town and a teacher goes missing, things become even more unsettled for Fran.

A brilliantly written story that you won't be able to put down.

I could instantly tell that the setting would be a huge part of the book. The beautiful writing whisks you away to the coastal location. Fran's obsession with the birds was such an intriguing part of the story.

I really enjoyed that this was a family drama interweaved with a chilling mystery. This combination worked perfectly and had such an unexpected outcome. I could never have predicted where the story would take me.

I also loved reading about Sophie's inspiration for the story, it was a really fascinating addition and insight into how the book started out.

Bird Spotting In A Small Town is perfect for you if you enjoy mysteries!

Thank you Verve Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This book was a whirlwind. There were so many plot twists that had me thinking of everyone as a suspect. The way the ending brings all of the twists in the story to a close in the end was so cleverly done. Sophie has truly written a story to make you think and have you second-guess everything. I was so shocked at the end, but I could not put this down. I really recommend this book.
