4.3 AVERAGE

Liked it better than vol. 1, but I'm still not sure what to make of this story. I think it will be one of those ones where you can only form an opinion once you've read most or all of it, but I will continue to read them as they come out.

now i will forever be afraid of stray hair

exciting to see more but felt a bit filler-y

Not as strong as the first volume for me but I’m still interested in where it’s going :)

I launched into this second volume and devoured it so fast, I had to reread just to make sure I was getting things right.

Hikaru and Yoshiki's relationship continues to progress with some childish possessiveness on Hikaru's end and Yoshiki trying to figure out if he can allow himself to continue to be friends with whatever Hikaru is.
I really badly wanted them to make it work but the warnings from the housewife Yoshiki randomly met in volume one feel like a truck horn blaring when you are trying to dream--it's an ominous warning and left me wondering what in the world she experienced as well. I feel for Yoshiki's apprehension and am so curious if he's already begun to "merge" with Hikaru and what that means.
The scene where Yoshiki found Hikaru's body was hard to read and my emotions were really spiraling, it was interesting to see how he knew Hikaru wasn't really...Hikaru at all. I really wonder what in the world Hikaru is???

The main question this volume poses is...Would you take the chance to be with someone you loved
that probably would not have accepted you as their true self if the chat with past Hikaru at the river is anything to go by
even if it meant it wasn't truly them anymore but they loved you back?

I do wonder what Hikaru felt for Yoshiki. They definitely had a strong bond...seeing how he so desperately knew he couldn't leave Yoshiki alone completely compromised my emotions and had me weeping for the tragedy of Hikaru's death. I forget that Hikaru really was a person reading the story and wow, HEARTBREAKING!
ALSO THE ENDING WITH THE HAIR MONSTER??? THAT WAS SOOOO TERRIFYING. Now I'm always gonna be totally freaked out when I see stray hairs in the shower...AHHhhhh! SO INTRIGUED ABOUT YOSHIKI SEEMING TO TRAVERSE INTO SOME KIND OF SPIRIT WORLD...and what was the chopped-off head we saw before??? I just...gotta know!

Volume 2 really ups the ante. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I'm fine with that because I'll definitely be following this story to the end. The plot is so clever and intriguing.

There were some really big revelations here, with how Yoshiki knew Hikaru was replaced, that there's some kind of 'ritual' Hikaru was probably supposed to complete in the mountains the night he died, and something about his father. Like there might be a group who keeps an eye on whatever "Hikaru" is and keeps him from surfacing.
Meanwhile, we saw Hikaru's final moments! What a shocker that was. And the final pages of the bonus scenes where "Hikaru" realised that he's in love with Yoshiki! There was also a really important conversation between Hikaru and Yoshiki where it's implied that Yoshiki might be gay but can't come out because another guy in the village came out as gay and everyone said he was sick and being sent away.

I love how delicately Yoshiki's feelings are handled, but I also love how super soft and squidgy "Hikaru" can be in contrast to the memories of old Hikaru, and yet he's also a badass demon-thing that can handle all the mysterious threats surrounding Yoshiki.
