Lighthearted, with an interesting core, and perhaps just a little too much pride in places. Overall I liked the story and structure, but it felt a bit long-winded at times. In addition, while I am no history buff, I'm wondering if the representation of the revolution and everything that followed was a bit... understated?

While often slow, I could not get enough of The Count. Even his mundane activities such as brushing his teeth, reading the morning paper, dining in the restaurant each night, etc. were still interesting. His relationships were real and full of awkwardness, love, and humor. I wish it had been a tad shorter - this was a very long book!

Took me forever to finish this book but I'm glad that I did.

What a wonderful piece of writing. Some of the text that was sprinkled throughout the book made me take a step back and think about how beautiful some string of words together can be.

A pretty light-hearted read all things considered. Don't think it's everyone's cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it (despite it taking much longer than expected 😅)

Although I took my time reading this, and got sidetracked by other books along the way. I really enjoyed it, especially from Book 3 onwards. The ending whilst charming does leave me longing for a proper conclusion. Although I would imagine an apple never tastes as sweet.

Enjoyable book and I really should dig out that copy of Rules of Civility that I purchased many years ago and finally read it.

This book was simply pleasant, delightful, charming and it oozed soo much class! It was also very soulwarming and I loved Count Alexander Rostov as a character as well as all the other characters! It was also a very informative read as I learnt much about Russian history over the period of about 3 decades! Absolutely loved the writing style as well!
