I would have given this book five stars if it hadn't slightly diluted the (in my opinion, more powerful) message of Ender's Game. I'm going to read more Bean books, but I'm definitely going to reread Ender's Game first, just so I remember what the original feels like.
my son is just starting the Ender series which reminded me of how fun these books are

A good read, but having just finished Ender's Game not long ago, parts of this were a bit too redundant. I could see it being a good refresher if I read it further down the line.
A great companion piece to Ender's Game. Philosophical and clever, it also stands well on its own.

Ender's Shadow is either the first book in a parallel series or the 5th book in the larger Ender's Saga depending on who you ask. It is an improvement over Xenocide, but not quite as good as Ender's Game. This is the story from Bean's perspective, but Bean is just too perfect for this book to strike the perfect cord with me.
As with the Ender's Game GN, this is a great companion to the original Ender's Shadow. The illustrations supplement Bean's story with a nice gritty feel.
Orson Scott Card does it again!!! Ender's Shadow, while occupying the same time line as Ender's Game is a unique and wonderful read told from the perspective of another insanely brilliant mind. Get ready to love Bean!
