Now I know why Disney had to flourish everything from this book. I believe this is the original version and it was not as dramatic as it was in the Disney version. One word: It was BORING. I appreciate finally having the enlightenment of reading the original but... okay, Creatives, let's get to work. Haha.
I bought this version because IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. This is one of my spontaneous purchases that broke my bank. I bought ALL the books in this collection and no doubt I would try to get my hands on the future releases. If this wasn't part of a collection, I would've sold this book because there was no way that I would reread this again.
I was entirely convinced in the first two-thirds of the story that I'm going to rate this high but the last third of the book was something I had to endure just to finish! There were not much interaction between the beast and Beauty so how are they supposed to fall in love? But then again isn't that how did it in the olden days?
What I liked about this book was that Belle had been given a better background. I loved that her family had a history. I loved that she had sisters and brothers.
Most of the adapted version stuck to the essentials from the original. But I missed having a terrible villain like Gaston! The end twists was just a complete eye-roll.
Nevertheless, the book is staying on my shelf.

Ok I give up... This book was so utterly pointless and uninteresting, the 120ish pages I have read felt like 2000. The characters are useless, their reactions ridiculous and despite being entirely about Belle there is no character development whatsoever.
I'll stick to the disney version, at least there is singing and beautiful libraries

while the language used is beautiful, tis a bit difficult and archaic. Which was to be expected, but it kept me at somewhat of a distance; also… to me it wasn’t necessary to make Beauty a princess by nature and the entire backstory of her parentage didn’t need to be told in my humble opinion.
Other than that, it is wonderful to see the origins of such a beloved fairytale and the little interactive bits, together with the artwork truly make this an experience I can recommend to nearly everyone who enjoys a bit of whimsy. There are also plenty of tales to chose from. I’ve been eyeing the Peter Pan one for a while since I haven’t read that one ever.
Edit: what I forgot to mention; the plot or rather the moral of this tale is to a large extend: “pretty people are good; and if their good but appear ugly; their secretly pretty”.
Beauty is also quite dimwitted which could annoy some greatly if what you are looking for is more than a perfectly kind creature being beautiful
