My only previous introduction to this story was through the Disney animated film that I loved as a child. There is very little resemberlance to the story here. This (like all originals) is much darker and weirder! I was really enjoying it though, until the last 3 chapters where it really got bizarre. At least this was a spellbinding edition. I love what MinaLima do to a book! If only all adult books were as colourful and interactive.
It was definitely interesting reading this book while comparing it to the Disney version the entire time. It is very different from the movie - almost completely a different tale. The beginning was faster paced, which I enjoyed and went through it quickly, but near the end, as we learn all the intricacies of the spell, I did find myself sometimes losing interest, though I really appreciate all the tiny details of the spell and how it all ties in with the story and the characters in the end. The writing and language was a tiny bit more difficult than other children's classics, but I really appreciated it. Overall I'm happy I read this and got to know the origin of this Disney classic and I feel I'll appreciate and like it even more once I re read this in the future.
The original story is so different from what I remember from the disney movies. But I admit this was tedious to get through, especially at the ending where everyone went into pages of monologues recounting the things that happened in the past. I admit I skipped over some of those pages just to finish

Senteces are written diffecult. Old like
This is one of the very few cases where I like the movie more.
I'm a bit confused because Disney normally has a talent to remove all the darkness and mature themes from the old children's classics but in this case I find the romance between Belle and the Beast much more complex than this soft one.
Halfway through I was thinking about giving it at least 3 stars but I was really bothered by the whole backstory and explanation in the second half. This is a fairy tale. Who asks for explanation within a fairy tale?
Although this is the only version I've read, I kind of get now why there is also a shorter version out there.
I'm glad that I finally read the original tale but I honestly would not read it again.

The first half while being completely different from the versions i know of (the Disney one of course and the 1948 movie). i was surprised but in a good way. expect maybe by the fact there is no library in that story (a shame imo).
but the other half… with the prince’s tale and the fairy’s and after that it was a mess.
also the moral at the end was so bad. beauty and the beast was for me about looking beyond the apparences. and it’s the moral of the 1st half. 2nd moral however is : don’t worry i would never let you marry a peasant you’re a prince. only a princess or a fairy is worthy of you… so i feel like it defeat the whole purpose of the 1st half. appearance does not matter but title does…
anyway the book as an object is stunning
