I feel bad rating a Disney story that I love so low, but this book just did not work.
I think that the Mina Lima edition made this a more positive reading experience, but this book still was very bland.
The beginning started out decently similar to the movie. It had many of the same general elements that the Disney version had. There were a few different details that I found interesting and I enjoyed contrasting them with the Disney edition.
This book had a lot more history than I was expecting. I thought that a bit of this was cool, but it just felt a bit overly lengthy.
Overall, I am far more impressed with J.M. Barrie’s writing as far as children’s classics Disney has adapted go. His was witty this was just ok.

It was insanely challenging to not make comparisons to Disney's Beauty and the Beast as I was reading this book.
I have loved this story for as long as I can remember and reading the original did not disappoint! It is completely different from the Disney version, but that made it all the more exciting to read. There is still so much magic and beauty in this story. Of course it reads like a classic fairy tale, so you need to give some allowances for that, but otherwise it is a gorgeous tale of love and magic.
