3.5 AVERAGE

very well written. the book flashes between the main character's life as a child in 1972, and her present day 2002 -- returning to her hometown to care for her sick mother.

the book is basically about murders that occur in 1971 and 2002, with very similar circumstances. the main character, Kate, sets to figure out the answers to both.

thrilling and sweet at the same time, i enjoyed this quick read.

Really good book. Picked it up and couldn't put it down until I was finished.

I've read several of Jennifer McMahon's books over the years and always enjoy them. They have a perfect blend of drama, mystery, and suspense, although they may not be for everyone. Often there are details of child abuse, rape, and other violence.

PROMISE NOT TO TELL was McMahon's first book, and now I know why her popularity only grew. It was dark, twisted, but had me engaged from the first chapter. I'm a sucker for a good murder mystery and this was so much more.

Also, this was one of my very last books of 2020 (93rd read of the year!)

a good little mystery, about the murder of a little girl that mimics a murder 30 years before. There were interesting elements, such as the setting (a commune). I also enjoyed learning about the friendship between the main character and the earlier victim, a friendship that was hidden because the little girl was unpopular and strange. The main character continues to struggle with having disowned the friend and having betrayed her on the very day of her death. Wasn't quite as into the elements that seemed "ghost-story"ish (I usually am not into very supernatural). But it was kind of creepy and overall a good one.

Great book!

Yay! A compelling book with an actual ending! The mystery was very tangled, I only guessed who the killer was about 20 pages before it was revealed. The reflection on past crimes and guilt was a nice touch.

YES YES YES!
I am so excited about this book! Jennifer McMahon does it again! I was hooked from front to back! I wanted to know who did it. I love me a good who-done-it plot. The dual timeline was perfect! It was not at all confusing and it was exactly what was needed to understand and emerge yourself into the story completely. Multiple times I felt like I could see this as a movie!

I can’t say I disliked any character. Even the jerks. I feel like they all played a crucial part within the story and their development was spot on! I have to say though, I LOVED Nicky and Del. I was unsure of her at first, but in the end, Del was my girl!

I really have nothing bad to say about this book except the chapters were a little to long for me. I love shorter chapters. It makes it a little easier to get to a stopping point. But, if that is my only complaint, it goes to show you that you NEED to pick this one up! *THERE ARE TRIGGER WARNINGS-RESEARCH BEFORE READING

Wasn't expecting a ghost story, but still a fun, easy read. Kept me entertained for a day.

Oh Jennifer McMahon! With your creepy little girls and your scary men and your is it or isn't it a ghost mystery and your dark woodsy locations! I love you so! I can't even have a favorite amongst your books because they are each more intricate and lovingly detailed than the last! (except Tikki Girl, but everyone has to do something bad for contrast)
