In the game of randomly putting books on hold because I like the look of the title this was a definite win. :D One of the better self-help books I've read. I found the way she broke down charisma and how it works very understandable and the exercises seem like they'd achieve their intended effect. Possibly I'll come back to this review if I make the effort to implement some of her suggestions. 4 stars

Much like [b:Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead|16071764|Lean In Women, Work, and the Will to Lead|Sheryl Sandberg|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364250803s/16071764.jpg|21865596], if you're pressed for time, you can get a decent amount from just listening to the talk version of the book (http://ecorner.stanford.edu/authorMaterialInfo.html?mid=3005) but this was still worth getting out from the library to peruse. There are many more specific exercises and tactics to try. I wish I'd had this back when I was getting performance reviews that I needed to be more tactful and communicate more effectively. Will be useful to recommend to others that are interested in developing better interpersonal skills.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first picked this up, but I was pleasantly surprised! This book is filled with practical advice, exercises and relevant stories on becoming more charismatic.

I have to admit, I had a lot of preconceived notions about charisma and what makes a person charismatic, and Olivia Fox Cabane showed me how wrong I was! I particularly appreciated the focus on mindset work: visualizing, reframing, and being present are such worthwhile practices -- for becoming more charismatic, and also for having an incredibly fulfilling life.

I'm excited to start practicing some of the strategies outlined here to increase my charisma, influence, and leadership skills.

i really liked the core of the idea: in order to be charismatic, you need to project a very charismatic image, and the most effective way to do that is to become a better person through things like self compassion.

the focus on different kinds of charisma rubbed me the wrong way, and the section on how charismatic leaders are often dangerous was interesting but made me feel a bit queesy about the book's content.

i'd recommend if you're prioritising doing talks/persuading in your day to day, but not really otherwise.

If I was to rate it based on it's value to me personally I would score it lower. It was further not the most enjoyable read, but this was of course linked to the value of it's contents. It is nothing ground breaking but if never before understood would be highly valuable to others. Therefore, based on it's contents and recognising it's potential value to others, I have been generous in my rating.
