[ NO RATING ]

I literally just read the Zodiac Academy bonus chapters and now I really feel like reading the entire series all over again... though I'll probably stop myself at book 5 😅

Totally counting this as a short—think Seth on the Moon or something 🤪

How stupid of me to pick up a brand new book by these authors who have not given any timeline for the rest of the series while i know fully what kind of cliffhangers they like to leave!

I picked this up on KU mostly just for the bonus ZA chapters at the end since i finished ZA 8 this past week and needed more. I found myself missing Solaria and feeling like the book was dragging in the beginning, but had to remind myself that this is a new world with new characters who I just haven’t formed a connection with yet. At around the halfway point, I was completely invested. When I got to the end, my jaw was on the floor and now I will be anxiously awaiting not only book 9 of ZA, but now also the remainder of this series.

Where to start?!

The Twisted Sisters did it again!! A Fae retelling of Aladdin with just a sprinkle of Rapunzel!!

Drake and Cassius are opposite sides of the coin but complement each other and the humor they play off each other is hysterical!

Overall I enjoyed this book, but it did take me awhile to get into. I was at around 30% when I finally got sucked in. It kept me intrigued, but it also was frustrating at times. I understand it's part of a series and the storyline has to drag out, but with it being such a long book, I wish the characters would have progressed in their romantic relationships a little further. And it ended in such a weird way that the actual storyline with the pageant and saving the emporer just.. seems forgotten? I'm sure the second book will go further into that, but.. maybe something to tie it in at the end? Idk. Maybe that's just me.
But I'm also a sucker and need to see this play out.. so I'll be continuing.

I had such high hopes for this book, especially as I devoured Zodiac Academy so quickly, but this just didn’t work for me at all. The storyline was very slow, I found myself waiting for the plot to pick up but I was bored the whole way through. The characters weren’t very captivating and if you removed the repetitive traits of each character, the story easily could have been 350 pages shorter.

There were some aspects that had me interested and I would have loved to have learnt more about but I won’t be picking up the rest of this series unfortunately.

I wanted to like this book so bad and I really do think that the story line was good and the characters were fun and exciting. However, the amount of fluff that you had to read to get to the meat of the book was so excessive it made the book rather unenjoyable for me. The speed of the book finally picks up to a good pace about 70% of the way in and I did like the bomb dropped at the end and am hopeful the second book keeps my interest more.
