all i read was the lance bonus chapter and my will to live has returned tenfold
Omg this book is repetitive. like drake says “i learned a long time ago” or “where i grew up” every third sentence. the characters just repeat themselves and their motivations constantly and it makes the book such a slog to get through.
i had hopes for this story but man im not sure if i have even gotten to the main story line yet or it, which is ridiculous considering im 30-35% in.
this is an issue with these authors when they’re rushing to publish i think because this happened with the zodiac academy books in 6-8 for sure. they need to edit their work better.

Y’all, the twisted sisters do it again. I’m truly hurt by that ending and betrayal. Idk why I thought it was going to be a happy ending. I’m UPSET
for phu <3 using lance/darius as a way to sell your ugly recycled book won't work... go finish za9 and let real fantasy authors write proper fantasy books xx

Started out just okay, then got good once the trials started and Drake and Cass teamed up. The ending was very rushed and bonkers and ended on the worst cliffhanger ever, which kind of cancelled out the rest of the book with making it just feel rushed or half-finished, especially since there's no news of a following book. Similar to "Realm of Wonders'" but that was better.

When I started this book I loved it. I loved the characters and idea. But about half way threw I almost DNF, I think it was that it was the same thing over and over again with the characters. They had to explain the characters main motivations like 3 times per chapter which was so unnecessary and annoying. Also I’m really not a fan of a lot of POVs. I did really like Kyra she was really funny and interesting.
DNF 15%.
I am so fucking disappointed. This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I wanted to love it. But man, I was only up to 15% and that took me nearly a week to read and I just couldn’t continue torturing myself and had to DNF it.
The writing isn’t terrible but it’s too fucking much. I can already tell this book could’ve been cut in half and by 15% nothing had happened because it’s all inner monologue and the same shit is repeated over and over again. The chapters are also so fucking long!
I don’t like Drake at all. He is just a man whore whose only personality is how he’s hot and has an affinity for seduction. Cassius is alright but his POV is just him going on about how loyal he is to the crown. Austyn is fine but once again her POV is just her going on and on about how she hates her life and doesn’t want to get married. I do like Kyra from the previous book but when it was her POV it was just her being sad and locked away over and over again.
