This is the first graphic novel I have picked up in a few months, and it's got me captivated. Though the pacing is a bit off, I love everything about the setting of this fantasy/sci-fi adventure that follows a family with a newborn struggling to escape an intergalactic war. Also, Fiona Staples is excellent, bravo for the outstanding visuals. On to the next one!

This is the second time that I have read this, and I still love it. This is the first comic book I have ever read in my life, and now this just makes me hungry to read more manga / graphic novels / comics. I originally thought comics would be so hard to read, and I wouldn't like them because there was not as much text as in a regular novel, but I was wrong. This was really easy to follow, actually. And I actually found it super interesting because we, of course, don't get descriptions because we see the art. But it was absolutely stunning.

We don't see many characters since this comic is short (as all comics are), being about forty-eight pages (which means I devoured this in less than fifteen minutes), but I enjoyed most of the characters we do see. I really enjoyed Alana's character. She was definitely my favorite. Like she was absolutely hilarious, sassy, a badass, and she really loved her daughter as well as her husband. That really came through, and I loved seeing that.

Alana's husband (whose name either we don't know or I missed somehow) was super caring, loved Alana to death, and he just gives off this vibe of being a great guy, and he definitely will be a great father. He is regarded as being something filthy because he is from a moon that is extremely close to the planet where Alana grew up, and the moon and the planet have been fighting and battling it out for like ever. Alana and her husband are supposed to be mortal enemies, but they actually really care for one another and the whole war is complete bullshit. This guy is quirky and loving and has such a big heart. I just love him!

The story is being narrated by Hazel, their daughter, who speaks of her being brought into the world and how thanks to her parents, she got to grow old. Now what happened in between that time, I imagine, is what the entire series is centered around. But at the core of this story, especially this first issue, is the love between these two parents and how they are willing to sacrifice everything for their daughter, and I just thought that was a really beautiful message.

We should talk about the artwork. While I am not experienced in the artwork of graphic novels and comics, I am very experienced in artwork in general. I've been following Cassandra Jean, who illustrates a lot of the things set in the Shadowhunter Universe, and I know good art when I see it. I absolutely love Fiona's art style. It's all very detailed and intricate, but also is minimalistic, which I loved. I thought she did a fabulous job with this comic.

Overall, I am super satisfied with this comic, and it has really opened my eyes to the comic book world. I loved the characters, the story line, the artwork, and the writing (it made me laugh out loud multiple times). This was just a really great comic, and I am so excited to read more of this series.

I’ve never really been a fan of graphic novels, but something about Saga made me fall in love with it. I agree that “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book yet.” becauseit was the exact same thing that happened to me with this particular genre.

Having said that Saga was the ‘right’graphic novel for me, it wasn’t my first graphic novel read, I’ve read Archie before and liked it, too, but not in the exact way that other people do. With Saga, it gave graphic novels a whole new meaning, for me at least.

“All of them tried to hurt me, but only one managed to break my heart.”
I really loved the main characters in this particular graphic novel, Alana and Marko. As you may have already known, I have always been a sucker for the kind of love wherein the whole universe conspires to tear them apart but they still end up together just because they love each other so much that they’d go through hell just to be together. In Saga, that’s the kind of love story they have. It’s kind of a forbidden-ish type of love story.

They are both soldiers from different galaxies and the two galaxies where they has always, always been enemies. It’s a never-ending galactic war but Alana and Marko both hoped for a new life, a life without war, a life where their family can be at peace.

I just love how strong Alana is. The strong woman power totally blown me away. I mean, how she fought so hard to save her family has just been so… Awesome. I just can’t explain more without spoiling you guys, so you better just read it!

“No matter how hard they try, no matter how good their intentions, everything will go wrong.”
I loved how it has this crazy humor in it but also dark at the same time. I’ve heard a lot of people from booktube who’ve read this graphic novel and loved it. Well, I actually haven’t stumbled upon one who says that they hate it. Only, I recommend this to adult readers or young adults because there are a whole lot of adult content in this book.

I don’t know how many times I’ve said this in this post already, but I loved it. Totally. It’s just so awesome.

“Violence is stupid. Even as a last resort, it only even begets more of the same.”

Beautiful art and an interesting premise. I've seen a lot of people raving about this series, so I thought I'd give it a go. I liked it enough to want to continue, it was just really short and I would've liked more (maybe I shouldn't be reading individual issues 🙃😂) so, I guess that's my own fault.

You're dropped straight into action (well, not the fighting sort. But that comes very soon) and from then: it has a quick pace, some hilarious banter, some heart breaking moments, and a magnetic pull.
Oh yeah, and a huge lie detecting cat? Yeah, count me in.

Saga has a nice blend of SciFi and fantasy, and I'm looking forward seeing this series, these characters, and this world progress.

Definitely for adults only. I loved these bad-ass characters who befriend ghosts, reason with scary statuesque supermodel/tarantula hybrids, ray gun heartbreak into the bad guns, and then talk about breastfeeding & how cute their baby daughter is.

So this is another "floppy." There are only two issues out of this comic as far as I know. Saga is written by Brian K. Vaughn, writer of the popular Vertigo title Y: The Last Man. This, to me, looks like it has more potential than that one did, though. I found Y was "accessible" in the ways that don't necessarily signify things are going to be good. The thing about Y was it had a decent plot, the same way tons of stories do, but its execution was terrible. It had the most boring artwork and the most plain writing I'd seen in a comic, since Fables. And, honestly, I followed Fables for a looooong time before I came to that conclusion (plus, in contrast, Fables has a different artist work on the covers and those are always gorgeous. Also, overall it was actually a better story).

This is completely off topic. My point is that Saga has interesting art, a plotline that is sort of scattered but kind of cool in the way that things like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Moonshadow were, but the writing is more direct and less fanciful (the way Brian tends to write). Character development is .. pretty much nil after two issues, but hopefully he'll build up on that.

The story is great! The art is a little too creepy for me
