I have loved this book since I was 13 and I still love it in the same way.

Going on a bit of a rereading kick at the moment as I don’t have the emotional energy for new things.

I haven't had a re-read of this in awhile, so I decided to get it in audio format. Warning if you get the audio book from audible, the chapters are all wonky because it was recorded 2 decades ago. I see why pre-teen me LOVED this book. It spoke to my SOUL. Menolly is an incredibly talented girl, but is treated unkindly because her talent is music, not something useful in a fisher hold, and traditionally a male profession. Misunderstood, different, teen girl was my life too (aside from her talent and firelizards)! Menolly and I were soul sisters! This re-read brought all of those feelings I had as a pre-teen/teen back. It's still just as good as the first time I discovered it on the library shelf.

Anne McCaffrey really isn't a great writer, but she's a great storyteller, and I've loved these books for over thirty years. :)
