An unspectacularly lovely Auster story of an older man who unknowingly starts a new life helping others picking up their lives after he divorced, ruined his relationship with his daughter & beat cancer.
A surprisingly optimistic and light story. And hypnotising as ever with Auster (not counting 4321) a book that catches your attention from the first sentence until the last. It’s over before you know it, but thankfully there are lots of books left to read :)

Auster wrote this entire book to demonstrate various human follies, culminating with an occurrence of some import that I will not mention here as not to wreck others' reading of the book.
I've been wanting to read Paul Auster for a while, and I can't believe I waited so long!
This book was amazing!
Paul makes the unbelievable believable. You know, the things that normally you would say, "that would never happen in real life". Maybe I doubly like it because the last book I read before this one failed miserably in this regard.
There is so much about this book to love. I love the language. This is the first English language )book I've read that I really enjoyed the language, the vocabulary, the sentances. And I read it as an audiobook!
It's a book I would want to read again. That's how delicious it is. And the post-modern storytelling... so invigorating.
I don't know if you noticed but I'm on a book high :o

Fantástica reflexión final. Libros sobre gente normal haciendo cosas normales pero que, de alguna manera, son increíbles.

i thought this book was very readable, but not wow at all. not that every book has to be wow, but this was a total subway read. you could even read it if you were kind of drunk on the subway. but it didn't have any of the elements of auster's fiction that made me like him in the first place which was kind of disappointing. brooklyn follies is an adventure story a la wonder boys that is much less charismatic and smart.
such good writing. forming a chosen family community in brooklyn will save your life! such a goddamn perfect character arc and story unfortunately mired by unnecessary fatphobia
This book is very intellectual... in an inspiring way rather than an alienating one. It is also full of humor, sorrow, anger, and all of the things that make up an honest representation of life. This is a story about an eventful time in the lives of a number of people connected through family and friends living in the New York area pre 9/11. I recommend this book to people who enjoy meaningful stories about people that aren't overly romantic and sentimental, but still inspire empathy and connection to the characters.
