I enjoyed learning about the life, faith, motivation and uniqueness of this television character I remember growing up with.

All about Fred Rogers read by Levar Burton? A dream come true.

I super loved getting to know Fred in a more well-rounded way and the great stories shared (wrecking Oprah's interview, long distance dating his wife, growing a great new show, and testifying for public funding) were simply lovely.

"Good people aren't *always* good - they just try to be."

I listened to this as an audiobook read by Levar Burton. What a wonderful choice of reader for this biography!

I felt like this biography of Fred Rogers was thorough without being dry. You get not only his life story but a lot of context around the town he grew up in, the early years of public television, Rogers' deep immersion in early childhood development theory, and the general cultural debate about what TV for children should look like. I love that it gave a peek into his life with his wife and his own two sons as well.

I can see why this book was widely-read and got a reader's choice award from GoodReads. By the time it finished with Fred Rogers himself singing "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood," I was in tears. I loved this. Highly recommended.

Great biography. It did well to dispel the current thoughts of Mister Rogers as a saint. He wasn't perfect, he was a human who made decisions (both good and bad). That brought me back to the roots of his message: that he likes you just they way you are, imperfections and all. Kindness, authenticity, and the power of storytelling and music are highlighted in his work, and that message shine through to today.

I think this was good for what it was, but overall I was a bit underwhelmed. I think I expected to feel a bit more emotion or reflection from a Fred Rogers biography. But it was well written and definitely very informative.

DNF. WTH. What kind of author can make Mr. Rogers so bland?

I hate that I am giving this book 2 stars, but this really was just an "okay" book. The material of Mr. Rogers' life could have easily made this a 5-star book, but the presentation of the information was tedious. I listened to the audiobook of this with Levar Burton narrating-- if it wasn't for his narration, I don't think I would have finished this book.

It is VERY repetitive. This book could have been cut down by 100 pages and been so much better.

Mr. Rogers is so obviously a wonderful role model for both adults and children. I wish that this book had gone through some better editing to have really given his life story the credit it deserves.

deeply touching

The audiobook read by LeVar Burton and featuring the Neighborhood theme song is a nostalgia trip for any 80's child.
