I listened to the audiobook version of this book. My favorite part about this biography is the way it was narrated. I was compelled to pick up this book because I grew up watching 'Mister Roger's Neighborhood'. I felt deeply nostalgic listening about the life and work of Fred Rogers. He was truly a pure hearted, wonderful man. It was really sad to find out how he passed away.
Favorite quotes:
• It is perfectly appropriate for children to be utterly different from grown-ups. They are not "little adults" just like their parents but smaller. They have a unique perspective and a special job to do: learning.
• You rarely have time for everything you want in this life, so you need to make choices. And hopefully, your choices can come from a deep sense of who you are.
• The real issue in life is not how many blessings we have, but what we do with our blessings. Some people have many blessings and hoard them. Some have few and give everything away.
• His lesson is as simple and direct as Fred was: Human kindness will always make life better.
• Good people aren't always good. They just try to be.

Pros:
Listening to this book in audio format is a pure dopamine bomb. You start with the familiar sound of Mister Roger’s singing the introduction to his show then go into another familiar children’s program voice with LeVar Burton.
It is really beautiful getting a closer look into how Mister Rogers became the man so many loved. I don’t know if he influenced or began the concept of gentle parenting or as some prefer to hear it called, responsive parenting but it seems like a lot of what he did is based on similar processes and with similar intentions. I could be seeing that since I recently read the Momma Cusses book but it seems possible.
Cons:
This honestly might be a perfect book. I appreciate that it doesn’t focus on unimportant details like addresses (I will forever hold that against a Disney biography). Here we get stories about the process and life of a man so many grew up watching possibly without ever thinking about how he grew up to be what he was. If anything I would have loved to have had full speeches and exerts from his shows and recordings included but I think by leaving them out it allows the curious to use their minds and look for that and more and I feel like that might have really made Mister Rogers happy.

A very interesting and thorough biography of Fred Rogers. I especially liked the audiobook because it was narrated by LeVar Burton, which seemed fitting.
A wonderful in depth look at an icon who never believed he was when all he wanted to do was enrich the world by helping children learn and grow.
This explores Fred Rogers's life from his own development as a young child by his kind and understanding parents and grandparents who were pillars of kindness and faith in their industrial boom community to the man who is still loved by millions today. From growing up shy and lonely but loved and encouraged to passing on his faith and life lessons. Sprinkled with bits of interviews with people who worked with him and knew him best as well as bits of his own interviews and part of his show it's inspiring and easy to see why his lessons are still relevant and needed today.

It was refreshing to read about a really good man! With Fred Rogers, what you saw is what you got. Colleagues, friends and family all concur that Mr. Rogers was consistently himself - high achieving but caring, kind and compassionate. His life was one of service to the youngest among us. It was fun to read about the puppet creation, and the often serendipitous inclusion of guests both famous and not. This is a lovely read.
Got distracted and had to return it to the library before finishing. I'll probably pick I up again though because I did enjoy it.
Like many have said, the story of Mr Rogers life is beautiful and inspiring. The writing in this book makes it difficult to read- it often reads like a newspaper article and is quite repetitive.

5 ⭐s for the actual content about Fred. This book covered so much of his life I didn't know about!
I'm giving it such a low rating because it was repetitive. I had to struggle through the end of the book just to see how his show ended and his legacy lives on. It feels like every chapter was written in a silo and then just slapped into a book with how much content is repeated over and over
