I am a young Gen-Xer. I grew up in a time before expanded cable television with 13 channel buttons on my set (no clicker). One of those buttons was devoted to input from my family's VCR. I spent *a lot* of time watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood on my local public broadcasting network, and I loved every minute of it. Fred Rogers impacted me at a young age. He was a kind of virtual friend at a time when I had very few in real life. He made it okay to feel negative emotions, to make mistakes, to learn through failure, to grow through hardship. Until I read this book, I assumed my recollection of him was rosy-tinted by the natural naivete of childhood memories. But no! He was actually all that I remembered, and so much more. This book is a beautiful biography of a very special human.

This is an expert biography of one of the kindest men to ever walk this Earth. As a teacher, I was inspired by how intentional Fred was about the way he conducted his show and how he taught his "lessons". I loved every minute of this slow walk through his incredible life and career.

Levar Burton as narrator was everything; like listening to an adult edition of Reading Rainbow.

I wasn’t a fan of Mr. Rogers growing up but I’m a fan now :,[

Glad to have weeded out all of the crap that floats around the internet about him.

Gave this 4/5 stars so to some obvious filler stories that weren’t needed or were being repeated. Nice to listen to - feeling nostalgic hearing his theme song.

Would have benefitted from additional editing

The two stars rating is for the writing and organization of the book. This book really needed more editing -there was way too much repetition. You certainly get a good look at Fred Rogers life and work, but more structure in the narrative would have provided additional context.
