This truly is a wonderful ode to the legacy of Fred Rogers. There's a certain softness in the writing that reflects the gentle nature of its subject and it was so lovely reading a biography with so much positivity and very little controversy. While I didn't love the non-linear story-telling where chapters opted to focus on themes in Rogers' life rather than the direct order of events, I still enjoyed it as a quiet escape and reminder that kindness and empathy can be a strength in life.

Crazy how being financially secure (hella rich) can allow the freedom to explore passions for the sake of passion and promote kindness in an unkind world though! If only other people had the same opportunities and financial security that Fred Rogers did with his family wealth.

This book made me realize that I was far less interested in the life of Fred Rogers than I thought I was.

A book about Mr. Rogers read by LeVar Burton? This just made my millennial book nerd heart burst. This was perfectly timed with my own kiddo arriving. I cannot wait to share this show and more current shows inspired by Mr Roger's Neighborhood with her. Learning about the man makes me appreciate him even more. Read and enjoy.

While I didn't watch Mister Rogers religiously as a child, he was one of the characters on my TV screen that followed me through my childhood, so it was a wonderful trip to learn more about his life and his teachings. No one is perfect in an idealized sense, but you are perfect just the way you are; and so was Fred Rogers.

5 stars for the subject matter, 3 stars for the writing.

Lots to feel good about in this book. It took some long, rambling tangents about ancillary characters and background info that I didn't care about. Definitely did some skimming, especially in the earlier chapters. But there are lots of fun Mister Rogers anecdotes, and it was really affirming to see that, by all accounts, he was the warm and genuine person he portrayed on television.

Personally, I think I’ve discovered I like autobiographies/memoirs rather than biographies written by another author and narrated by a different person

It was interesting to read about his ideas of early childhood education, but beyond that I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Good Neighbor is a heartwarming and inspiring read that captures the essence of a truly remarkable life, offering lessons in empathy and human connection that resonate far beyond the world of children’s television.

Ultimately, The Good Neighbor is a tribute to a man whose legacy remains deeply relevant in a world that often feels divided and cynical. It reminds readers of the enduring power of kindness and the courage it takes to embody it consistently. For fans of Fred Rogers or those seeking inspiration in his life’s message, this book is a must-read.
