DID NOT FINISH: 45%

Honestly this book was just not for me. It was slow and I found myself purposefully finding something else to do rather than read. The pace is slow, the characters are meh, and my brain was not being tickled.

SpoilerI found this book hard to get through; I just didn’t feel that excited to keep reading. The story was fine, but I felt that it kept dragging on. I was definitely caught off guard at the end when the real culprit was unveiled but that last chapter or so was so…. unnecessary? I just didn’t think we needed sexual assault on top of the murder. Came completely out of left field and not sure how I feel about that.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. I feel so conflicted about this book. I was drawn in to the mystery and was completely invested in the search for Max. However, the constant negativity towards Freda, the newborn and the obsessive storyline of breastfeeding her was SO distracting and really took away from the whole experience for me. I understand postpartum is a serious condition for many women, but that, to me, wasn’t supposed to be the focus of the plot…or was it? I don’t know. Overall, I read this quickly because the “whodunit” factor kept me engaged, and the ending was really good, so I’m not sorry I read it.

I’m a sucker for thrillers that show the darker side of motherhood, and this one did that brilliantly.

Short Synopsis:
Janie is a new mom who’s struggling getting into her new life. Her boyfriend however was made to be a dad. Until one night he doesn’t come home. And there’s a murder at a nearby bar. What happened? Where is her boyfriend?

Thoughts:
This was twisty and I did not see a lot of them coming. It was a quick, fast-paced thriller. Lots of secrets. Unique characters. Excellent ending.
