we get it man, you’re super cool and badass and loyal. I couldn’t help but laugh at the two or three instances he talks about running out the back door or bailing on bad situations. If you like casual domestic violence, racist language and defense of using nazi symbols - boy oh boy! You can have my copy

If anyone has noticed by now, I am a huge fan of FX’s show, Sons of Anarchy (Tuesday nights at 10 PM!). It is a show about a fictional outlaw motorcycle club (MC) created by Kurt Sutter and acted out by some amazing people. I am active in watching the show and participating in some fan things, such as listening to two fan podcasts and emailing them and calling them with my thoughts and comments.

So naturally, I thought I should get a slightly different view of the outlaw MC world, especially after it was announced that Oakland Hell’s Angels founder and former prez, Sonny Barger, would be appearing on the season finale of SoA. My dad watches the show as well and we were both excited by this development. I cannot remember if he approached me or if I approached him, but he has a few books on the Hell’s Angels and I chose the one that seemed to mostly be about Sonny Barger.

Not nearly as interesting as I hoped. Barger seems, perhaps unsurprisingly, to have little personal insight.

I listened to this as an Audible audiobook. It was a nice read especially in the first half, but I started to struggle with it in the second half. Being an autobiography you cannot really blame it for the timing or the turn the events took, but still.

I think it's an exciting autobiography and anyone giving it a try who is even a little bit interested in bikes and/or in the 60s-70s-80s USA will be satisfied.

Although it is very clear that Ralph Barger is not a writer - the book is all over the place, the events are unorganized and not chronological - the story he tells is really interesting. He confirmed some of my prejudices about the Hell's Angels but he did stress that the main passion of their club are their motors. The book is really interesting and amusing and worthwhile to read. I'd recommend it to anyone who has prejudices against the motor club.

To my chagrin I finished this book because it was required for my Social Deviance class. While I appreciate it, I just found zero enjoyment in this semi-biographical book about the infamous Hell's Angels motorcycle club. Just glad it's over.
