Okay now for me this book was better than Howl's Moving Castle
I mean it. It was way more fun to read. The pace was fast and the twists were so surprising and satisfying. It was worth the read. Okay but just to be honest I admit I didn't read this book for a long time. Like it wasn't the book’s fault. It was just that I don't know I...started reading another book and…um forgot about it?
But I'm glad I picked up the story. I was grinning while reading ya know? I enjoyed the story ~
I loved Abdullah. Like he's such a green flag. He's better than Sophie as a protagonist. I loved the way he interacted with others. He was such a fun character to follow. And Zahra was lovely as well. A bit naive but intelligent. And the soldier, Midnight, Suliman and Letti and all the other princesses made the story so amazing to read. I loved it ❤️

While it's set in the same universe as Howl's Moving Castle, it certainly stands on its own! Set in a Middle-East-like country for a lot of the story, it reminded me of Arabian nights in style.
While very different from each other, each character is likeable for their own strengths and unique qualities.
Lovely, charming, funny. All threads were tied nicely and any small inconsistencies were easy to forgive. Loved it!

I loved it!
I started it right after finishing Howl's Moving Castle, and it was a bit of a rough experience since we go from a quite European-ish fantasy world straight to a Middle Eastern world with a totally different main character than Sophie! This doen't mean Abudallah is a bad character I'm fond of him as well. Still, I remember my first thought was "Oh... so it's not a sequel rather just another book in the same universe" and being frank I felt a bit disappointed, which was the reason for me to pause the reading for like a year. Skipping time to a year after, I re-discovered my kindle, bc I went a rabbit hole of new devices (the last time I checked anything related to e-readers was in 2015 when I bought mine) and suddendly badly wanted to use mine so in my search of something to read I remember this book and resumed my reading and... a year after, with Howl's and Sophie and all that book in a cherished part of the back of my brain I restaterted this experience and I got to say it was great! Time helped me focus more on the book than on my love for the previous one, and it was worth it. The story is pretty entertaining, the characters are all really enjoyable and lovable, even Dalzel, maybe just Abdullah's family is annoying, but it takes so little time in the book that it doesn't matter. And then the sudden collision with past characters is glorious, tbh I expected them to be here for like a dialogue, maybe even a scene, but they were there all of the time hidden below my nose (quite fitting for the book themes) that I kinda want to re-read it knowing what I now know... I liked it so much I wanted to jump straight into House of many ways... but I think it may happen the same that happened here, so I'll try to wait for a bit before; give myself a good bye to Abdullah and Flower in the night

This book gets a lot better as you read it, which is the exact same thing I thought about the first one in the series. The beginning is basically Aladdin, if Aladdin had a job an atrocious relatives. I never really got to like Abdullah as a person, but he does get better once he starts interacting with other people, much like Sophie.
The twist was fun and quite unexpected, but I didn't enjoy this story as much. Going onto read the third book and see what happens!
