This book gets a lot better as you read it, which is the exact same thing I thought about the first one in the series. The beginning is basically Aladdin, if Aladdin had a job an atrocious relatives. I never really got to like Abdullah as a person, but he does get better once he starts interacting with other people, much like Sophie.
The twist was fun and quite unexpected, but I didn't enjoy this story as much. Going onto read the third book and see what happens!

very cozy and fun once u get to the last third of the book, knocked a star off for 1990’s fatphobia and wild orientalism. not sure if would read this again any time soon, but i loved seeing what the hmc characters were up to
Considering how whimsical and interesting Howl's Moving Castle was, I didn't expect this to be so dull. To make it worse, our main character is an unbearable jerk, and I couldn't care less about him and his quest. Also, I was taken aback by the fatphobic comments here. They were low-key shocking because, again, this world is so whimsical and nice. Since I didn't care about the character and his quest, this was incredibly boring to me, and I know for sure I'm not missing anything by dropping this. Was this even written by the same person? I'm so confused.

The books started pretty rubbish to be honest. I didn't like the idea of people meeting and then suddenly being in love and deciding to marry right away but then the adventure part of the book kicked in and it got very interesting after that and it ended really well

I enjoyed the second half much more than the first half. The characters really came to life and began to sparkle
