I always enjoy Diana Wynne Jones and this book was a fun and easy read. However, was unfortunate that it is a sort of sequel to Howl's Moving Castle as I never really warmed to the characters as much and just wanted Howl and Sophie on my page as much as poss. Holiday book 1

- the main character was kind of blank, leaving room to be a self-insert, but I'm not the target audience
- Interesting story elements I usually don't see in novels (
flying carpets, djinns, shape-shifting, very ominous, but fascinatingly described scenes of magic (soft magic system)
)
- superficial portrayal of love, primarily focussed on:
love on first sight, stereotypes of men and women

- 2/3 of the book were kind of boring to me, the latter third was interesting, introducing more explanations and connections between people

All in all some interesting concepts, but delivered in a way that isn't to my specofic taste.
I read it anyway to learn more about the world of Howl's Moving Castle.
I imagine that children would enjoy this book very much, because it feels mysterious, adventurous, but is somewhat tame and chill in general.

This book read like an old fairytale and I loved that!!   It was so much fun and it even carried on the story from book 1 at one point, which I didn’t expect. Even though it’s not my favorite story (Howl’s Moving Castle will always own my heart), I loved the way it was told.
