This took me so long to get into! I ended up enjoying it but it took too long to get there. I almost gave up but stuck with it. I am glad I did and I enjoyed the ending.

A book hasn’t evoked feelings like this within me for a long time. Nealon’s writing is tender and hard felt, funny, frustrating, hopeful and deeply moving all in the right places. I both laughed out loud and cried whilst reading this !
A HIGHLY UNDERRATED book

I have to rate highly because this book moved me in a wonderful way. Though it sometimes felt as though it bent into horror in its trauma and rising anxiety, the book remains ethereal and steadily optimistic. I'd recommend to a friend :-)

This book, to me, has similar vibes to the book Normal People, but a lot more engaging and authentic! I’m a sucker for real, raw characters and this book does just that! It’s about an 18-year-old, Debbie, who is navigating her first year of college, juggling family, friends, school and the issues they sometimes bring. I started reading this when I got bored reading Outlander and I am super surprised at how much I liked it!
*i’m adding my fav quotes down here manually because I didn’t read this one on my kindle*
• “As soon as a dreamer enters a dream there is no longer the dreamer. There is only the dream.”
• “I’m annoyed with myself. I’m angry with someone I don’t know because he is not fitting into my fantasy. He’s not going out with Xanthe to make me jealous. He’s a genuine, nice, boring guy who just doesn’t fancy me.”
• “I only got that first because I bullied myself into going to the library every day. I wrote six different drafts of the same essay. You want to know how to get a first? Give out to yourself. Constantly. Be disappointed in everything you write. Tell yourself you’re worth nothing if you don’t get over seventy per cent. I actually like hating myself. It’s my comfort zone.”
• “Browsing in a bookshop is a lot like collecting shells on a beach on a really good day. I want all of them.”

I really like how this book dives into the issues Debbie faces when starting university (maybe because I can really relate to it), especially with her living a while away from Dublin where she studies. Unfortunately I read this quite a while ago and so I don't remember the book too well but I still found it very enjoyable.
Graphic: Death, Mental illness
