Firstly, I’m embarrassed to say I had absolutely no clue Paulo Coelho was still alive (let alone writing books!), and for some reason I thought the Alchemist (which I loved) was written a very long time ago (it was actually released in the 90s…whoops). That being said, I thought the Archer was another one of his older books and was surprised and excited when I saw it was released in 2020.
The book started off really fascinating. I enjoyed the original storyline that only lasted a few pages, before the book dove into small paragraphs, lots of white space, and metaphors. Some of the metaphors were very thought-provoking and beautiful, but mostly I was confused about the context in which I was supposed to be comprehending them. Maybe I’m not smart enough to fully grasp each one, but even some of the ones I did understand were a tad cliche.
I will say the illustrations and layout of the book were absolutely beautiful, and were what led me to buy the book in the first place. However, just because a book is beautiful, doesn’t mean it’s any good (looking at you influencer-wanna-be-poets….). I don’t plan on rereading this book anytime soon, so back to the bookstore it goes tomorrow! Thankful I kept the receipt.

Grabbed this beautiful little book from the half price books free bin simply because the design and illustrations were so striking. This is the story of a man who used to be renowned for his archery but has retired, he ends up recounting the way of the bow to a young boy who wishes to learn and the book ends up being a collection of essentially “proverbs” that relate to archery but apply to life. It’s one of those books that is beautiful and many passages are useful while others are not. It’s a subjective book for many different people.
This book helped me set my intention for the New Year. A quick but deep read. Highly recommend.

Sad to say this for a Coelho's book. You can skip this one. Apart from couple interesting quote the book has nothing to offer.

Everything about this book reminds me very strongly of my Grandma Mildred. I think she would like it!
