Here’s what I liked:
- I think the authors prose is great! She writes very beautifully.
- I loved the idea of “Dracula” being this abusive partner and the “brides” desperately trying to escape him.
- When they finally decide to escape and how it really was written like how someone truly feels when they come to terms that the partner is abusive and they decide to escape.
Here’s what I didn’t like:
- Dracula WHERE? The only and I mean only mention that the male abusive vampire is Dracula is a very brief mention of the “Harkers” referencing the characters from the novel by Bram Stoker.
- Incest?? The author HEAVILY HEAVILY references an incestuous relationship between the characters in this book. It’s…weird and unnecessary!
- Timelines not adding up. I could be wrong but I’m fairly certain at one point it’s the 1930s and the character references another character using a carriage for transportation?
- The first brides (and all the others if I’m being honest) don’t really have any sustenance or backstory. It leaves me as the reader feeling very unconnected and uncaring towards the characters.
What I wish this book was (because the premise had so much potential):
- An actual deep dive into who Draculas brides were. He could still have to abusive nature but make me give a hoot about the ones he’s abusing.
- A deeper connection and a clearer connection to the fact that the head vampire is Dracula and these are his “brides” even though one is a male?? It’s almost like the author was overcompensating trying to tell us she is an ally or accepting of LGBTQ relationships.
- I’m all for a sapphic love story so it would’ve been interesting to see the brides, actually falling in and maybe even having like a secret love for and a connection between them to really break free of this abusive Dracula character.
- Having the ending of the novel of Dracula being woven in with the story of the brides survival and maybe the brides secretly helped in the characters from the novel Dracula, kill the famous monster.
Needless to say, I would not recommend this book.

This was weird. It was presented to me as horror but it became hot topic goth that desperately wanted to try to be Anne Rice erotica. Not my cup of tea. The characters were all diminished to sex objects and I can only handle so much smut before I get bored. I got bored. I'm so grateful this wasn't longer because I would probably not finish it.
