My only other experience with Jasinda Wilder's work was trying to read the first book from her Big Girls Do It series. I've enjoyed my share of what other readers affectionately call "smut", but that book didn't hold my interest. I'm not sure why I decided to pick up another Wilder book -- probably because my library keeps recommending her.

Anyway, this book is slightly better than the first Wilder I read. I would have just given it two stars based on the main relationship which smacked of insta-love. However, it was the B-plot that paves the way for the rest of the series and the well-developed characters that earned the book a third star and pushed me to check out the second book in the series. While I may not be a fan of insta-love, I am willing to suspend my disbelief when reading about characters who are impossibly good-looking and competent at their jobs to the point of being nearly supernatural. The Badd brothers definitely fit that description.

In case you missed the word "smut" in the first paragraph, let me spell it out for you: the sex is front-and-center in this book. There is no open or closed door because half the time the hero and heroine don't even make it to the bedroom. You should definitely save the recommendation of this book for your adventurous auntie, the one who shows up with a different boyfriend at every family function :-).

It was just an okay read

2.5
funny slow-paced
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Open door romance, which has a very irritating repetition of "babe" by male character and a damsel in distress complex I wasn't sure I liked.

The only thing keeping from giving this steamy read from 5 stars is I wish it had been longer. Jilted runaway bride heads unwittingly to Alaska right into the arms (okay a bar) of a man who will help her get over any regrets she may have about doing so. Dru is strong, witty, and fiesty, and can literally drop a Navy SEAL to his knees; more interaction between her and Sebastian/Bast's brothers would have made this better. Also, I have to say some of the hottest scenes I've read in a long time.

Too many annoying things for a good rating..
- too much (needless) violence, the H and his brothers kept hitting when upset, never seeing reason to TALK beforehand.
-other times they couldn't QUIT talking about their history and lives, I continued skipping paragraphes, there seemed to be no end to this. All 8 (!) brothers HAD to be introduced in a very detailed way in this first book of the series... and not just at the sidelines, but really thoroughly, it was exhausting, not interesting.
-the sex-scenes.. I love good sex-scenes but the one's in this book.. oh they were soooo hot.. (yes, this is an attempt at sarcasm) the h was blown away by the H (entire chapters seemed to be filled with the affermations how hot and hard and deep and good the sex was) but nevertheless she zoned out and had endless thoughts about her life, her dad, her ex, all during this amazing sex!! I couldn't understand how this should be possible. Good sex equals no thinking! Not endless thinking. How did she manage to concentrate on those trains of thoughts?
-the scene with the h's ex... wouldn't spoil it for you, therefore I can just say: aaarrrggghhh.!!!

I thought about giving this 2 stars, but writing this review I've convinced myself 1 star is all this book gets from me. Sorry (not).
