I didn't even finish this book. I was so bored I put it down but the story is pretty interesting so I gave it two stars. I don't see myself going back to finish it.

I liked this one and the focus on the heroes a lot more. It was so hard for me to get through, since I read Dragonsong and Dragonsinger first, and I knew what was going to happen. I was dreading it, because I liked everyone so much more in this one than in Dragonflight! It turns out it was all for the best, as we know from other books. In the end, it was exactly what it needed to be.

Not quite as good as the first book (and there are some inconsistencies) but it's still really good. I like how this volume shows a different side to the characters introduced in the first book.

Pern per adesso mantiene la sua promessa, e ti avvolge in atmosfere d'altri tempi e d'altri luoghi.
C'è qualcosa, nelle grandi saghe fantasy/scifi di fine anni '70 che è difficile trovare nei libri moderni. Probabilmente per cominciare, il fatto che si, sono saghe, ma ogni libro è a se, sebbene ci siano trame che proseguono da un libro all'altro. Un po' la differenza che c'è tra un telefilm e una trilogia cinematografica, tipo. Oppure no, ma vabbè, non è solo questo XD. E' forse il fatto che gli autori spesso saltellavano avanti e indietro nel tempo, invece di scrivere una saga lineare. Ma soprattutto è il motivo alla base di questo, ovvero che questi mondi sono assolutamente vividi nella mente dello scrittore, e conseguentemente nella testa del lettore. Leggi un libro che parla dei Weyr di Pern, ma gli accenni agli Hold o alle Craft non sono vuoti, sono sfuggenti ma ti fanno intuire un mondo al di fuori di quello che stai leggendo.
Ho trovato Dragonquest particolarmente interessante perchè, se nel primo romanzo avevamo come protagonisti F'Lar e Lessa, ovvero il tipico uomo-che-a-un-certo-punto-comanderà-tutto-è-evidente-fin-dalla-prima-pagina e la ragazza-cresciuta-nelle-difficoltà-ma-con-una-grande-nobiltà-interiore-ed-è-pure-figa, in questo il fuoco viene spostato su F'Nor (il fratello di F'Lar) e Brekke, che sono un po' quei personaggi che sembrano dei comprimari ma poi invece fanno cose straordinarie. E Brekke è gentile e compassionevole senza mai risultare stucchevole, e F'Nor si sviluppa bene come protagonista, incredibilmente approfondito senza tradire l'impressione che aveva dato nel primo libro.
E comunque è una saga tanto bella, per cui si continua :D

Dragonquest covers a lot of ground, with more storylines than Dragonflight, and more characters. I found it hard to keep track of everyone. Sometimes the writing seemed formulaic, in terms of descriptions especially. It was not as good this time as it was 30 years ago, but it wasn't awful either. It's fun to revisit the Pern stories, and some are better than others.
Dragonquest also contains my least favorite moment, the greatest tragedy in the Pern cycle that I have encountered (I have not read all of the Pern books).
I'd give this three and a half stars if I could.

Listened this in audiobook, this is the novel I remembered. Harder for me to get as immersed into an audiobook. It was a nice quick listen. Ultimately this felt a little bit all over the place for me.

Well these don't hold up from reading in my childhood, they are still a million times better than the Young Adult trash like the hunger games.
