I want to start by saying the story is on point for a good romance novel. Everything you need is there and it's an original story, at least for me. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance novels.
So why only 3 stars? The book just needs some polishing. I read that Moore was a self published author at first, but I didn't look into if this book was also self published. If it is, that would explain some things. There are a multitude of editing errors. This didn't take away from the story, but it was distracting at times. It was simple things like a word missing an 's' at the end or saying something the same way just sentences apart.
Another editing downfall, which I at least think would fall under editing, is just the fleshing out of the story. Some of it felt "clunky", especially some of the relationship interaction. I got what Moore was getting across, but I don't think it came off well. At times I found Jupiter to be a jerk who needed to get it together. But I don't think that's what Moore was going for, it's just she needed to flesh the conversation and relationship out a little better.
Last, I scoured the internet to try to find if Moore is American because some of the terms and descriptions were odd. I'm fine if she's not American, but you are writing about American baseball. In this vein, I wondered at the reality of their high school. Is that how schools are in California? Maybe I just have no clue, but that was my first tip off at wondering if she was from Europe or Canada. It was here too some of the terms came about when she used the word "squad" for "team" and "pitch" for "field". Maybe other places is America use those terms, but I had never heard it before.
All in all, and enjoyable book. Deal Lulu Moore, hit me up with an Arc if you need editing ideas, I'm not a professional but I won't charge haha!

more gross double standards of the mmc sleeping with a small country's population worth of women while the fmc is miserable in a loveless and sexless marriage.
because according to " i can't say her name because goodreads will take this down ", sex is "different " for men and women, which is just code for im a raging sexist and won't let the fmc be happy.
on to the plot, it was sooo lazy and ridiculous, he supposedly broke up with her and broke her heart so she can " pursue " her dreams yet had no issue making her quite her AMAZING job so HE can follow his own dreams.
also why the hell had he never contacted her in 14 years? "it has always been her and she was always suppose to be his" , WHEN?? when he was busy dicking down any willing woman? "he never stopped thinking about her in his every waking moment" , again was he thinking of her when he flirted and took women home? i need someone to point it out for me.
and he had the gall to be upset and sulk because she got married while he spent every waking moment finding women to sleep with because according to him he can be a walking STD but the fmc can't get married and form a real connection to someone oh no no . god forbid she tried to move on.
NOTHING about his behavior showed love or even bare minimum respect but how can he do that when the fmc doesn't even respect herself.

As someone who loves sports romance series, Iโve been wanting to read a Lulu Moore book for years, so I finally committed to this one and dove in!
This one alternated between Jupiter and Marnieโs high school past and MLB-centered present, and it was an easily bingeable read!
I adored the flashbacks to their origin story: Marnieโs STEM-based focus and Jupiterโs love of the game felt very 90s romcom *geeky girl next door to the hot jock* coded. Their relationship felt quintessential First Love - all consuming.
However, there were multiple elements of the present timeline that didnโt quite work for me, but especially: Why didnโt he track her down sooner? I had a hard time believing โit was always youโ with this one. Also, I wanted more conversations with reconciliation and them learning each other as adults.
Also, for someone so smart, Marnieโs backbone seemed pretty liquid around him for the most part - which I just donโt love in FMCs.
I did enjoy some swoony grand gestures, steamy scenes, and overall fun friend group banter.

Overall, Iโll probably continue this series, and I would possibly recommend this book if you want a second chance sports romance story.

There were some things I REALLY loved and there were other things I could have done without in this story. Most of the other reviews are pretty spot on with the vibe of these characters lol.
While I hated that chapters were insanely long and the flashbacks were also really long I am intrigued enough to try more from this author!
- childhood friends to eventual lovers
- second chance
- sports romance (baseball)
- workplace romance
