I liked this a lot. I really liked Marnie and Jupiter.
I loved that the story was more than him breaking up with her because he wanted to be able to play the field as a rookie. I also loved that the quintessential 3rd act conflict did not have something to do with Marnie's ex-husband trying to win her back.
I really wish she was more a MD than a PhD, but the concept was still intriguing.

The Third Baseman by Lulu Moore is the first book in The New York Lions series.  If you’ve read other Lulu Moore books, you’ll see some familiar faces in this book.

I am a HUGE baseball fan and I love a good second chance romance, so this book checked off a lot of boxes for me.

Jupiter Reeves broke Marnie Matthews heart fourteen years ago when he got drafted to the Dodgers.  Now, Jupiter is on a new team and Marnie is brought on to help the team win, even though she has no idea how she’s supposed to do that.  Jupiter does everything he can to win back Marnie, while she does everything she can to resist him.

Jupiter Reeves is one of the best third basemen in the MLB and is known as a sexy grumpy asshole, but everything he does it’s with Marnie in mind.  I actually loved that he was broody and hated everyone but Marnie.  I loved that all his tattoos were for her and that he wrote an M in the dirt with his bat before every at bat.  I love that Jupiter was way more complex than anyone was expecting him to be.  Between teenage Jupiter and adult Jupiter, there was a lot to love there.

Oh sweet Marnie, I felt every single one of her heartaches.  Within that prologue, I already knew she had my heart.  I adored Marnie and how smart she was.  She was a freaking rocket scientist who worked for NASA of all places.  I just hate that she gave up her dream to go into space, and I wish that it was addressed.  Marnie was full of heart and she loved Jupe so hard, which brought back so many memories.

Lulu Moore gives us dual POV and switches between the present and Marnie and Jupiter’s past.  She does this in such a beautiful way that gives you just enough of what you need to do as the story unfolds.  With every single word, I felt like I was there.  I was able to suspend my baseball realism for awhile to get into this book, and I loved this way more than I was expecting to.  This was the perfect blend of angst and spice. This should definitely be added to your TBR.

I've just been in a big sports romance mood, and I've been reading so much ice hockey and really wanted to branch out into some other sports-y ones. So when I saw this baseball one, I couldn't wait to jump into it. This one was interesting. This super smart ex-NASA employee, Marni, just signed up to work for this baseball team. It's a newer team, and they brought her in to help get the team stats up in hopes to start winning. What she had no clue about was that Jupiter would be there! Jupiter is a star baseball player who grew up with Marni. We go back and forth between the present day with these two and flashing back to when they were just teenagers. It was an interesting dynamic, and overall I liked it, but there were moments where I wish we could've focused on a little bit more. However, I loved the other characters in this book! They were so much fun and sometimes stole the show. I believe this is just the first book in a new series, so it will be interesting to see who they focus on next!

Star light, star bright...this book gets all the stars tonight

I fell in love with Jupiter Reeve's in Drew and Emerson's book and continued to fall in love with him when he made appearances in Felix and The Show. I have to say this book was one that I was most looking forward to this month and I am happy to say that it did not disappoint! I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and I devoured it.

When you read the prologue you will not like Jupiter very much. He breaks Marnie's heart with little reason as to why he is doing it. They don't see or speak to each other for 14 years. When they are reunited, Jupiter is determined to win Marnie back and Marnie is not sure. He does so many little, sweet things to win her back and it is all just perfect. She loves Jupiter and always has but he broke her heart so completely that she is wary of falling for him again.

This book is also dual timeline. You get to fall in love with Jupiter and Marnie in high school and then you get to do it again as adults. I know that I would have been completely head over heels for high school Jupiter.

I loved Marnie in this book, like with all of the female characters in Lulu's books, she is fierce, and strong and smart and accomplished, I mean she is a literal rocket scientist! I loved when Jupiter let his guard down, he is known as the tattooed bad boy of baseball. But with Marnie he is light and funny and again it just makes you fall in love with him more. I loved that Marnie was able to resist him for as long as she did, I would not have held out that long. And when you find out the meaning behind his tattoos you will swoon!

Also also also, the big grand gesture at the end of the book is different and perfect and I loved it!

I also loved that we get to see some of our favorite characters from Lulu's other books. There is a birthday party scene that is so much fun. I cannot recommend this book enough, seriously read it! I am so excited for this series and I can't wait for the next book (please let it be Ace).

Read this if you love:
*sports romance
*friends to lovers to enemies to lovers
*second chance romance
*its always been you
*workplace romance
*strong FMC (I mean she's a rocket scientist)

I am so thankful to Lulu Moore and Valentine PR for the ARC of this book!

Prob would have given it 5 stars if the ex-husband had a bigger role in the story. Idk, felt like a missed opportunity to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

5⭐️/5⭐️

I was a giggling mess over this, this was such a slay lol. I loved Jupiter and Marine, especially seeing them as teens, so wholesome. What I also loved was how involved baseball and the science aspect was, like so unheard of, we love a woman in stem so slay Marine. I normally hate books sets in both past and present but I quite enjoyed this book. Love how Jupiter never gave up on Marine and how we got see Marine’s wall slowly break down and let Jupiter back in. What really grabbed my attention was their ‘first date’ as teens, watching the stars, that’s such peak romance I died. This book felt so different from all the other baseball romances I’ve read and I absolutely utterly loved it!

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Things I liked:
  • “She was so fucking smart; my smartest Star.”
  • “The only reason Jupiter came to play at The Lions was to get you back. That’s why you’re here.”
  • “Staring back at me were boxes and boxes and boxes of LifeSavers.”
  • “Whoa, whoa, whoa. And where are you heading off to in such a rush, my little pocket rocket?”
  • “He’s become a completely different person since you arrived, like he’s suddenly developed a personality beyond moody fucker.”
  • When she’s explaining the Milky Way to him (when they were teenagers)
  • HE JUST INVITED HIMSELF TO LOOK AT THE STARS WITH HER FOR THE FIRST TIME
  • Love it that Jupiter corrected a teammate that Marine is a doctor
  • HE WRITES M INTO THE DIRT BEFORE HE BATS IM SCREAMING
  • “I wanted to know what they said.” Her voice was so low she was almost talking to herself. “This date…” “The day we met.” I raised my other arm slightly higher, pointing to an identical entry. “And this is the date of our first kiss.”
  • He got her a new telescope because she left her one in Houston
  • When he apologizes for hurting her when they were kids
  • “I know,” he leaned up and kissed my nose, “but I like hearing you talk about it. It makes me feel smarter just by hearing you being smart. ”
  • SHE HAS A TATTOO ABOUT HIM AS WELL
  • “That noise, Marn.” “My laugh?” “Yeah, I could listen to it on repeat and I’d never get enough.”
  • “I want babies with you. I want you to have my kids, lots of them, so say the word...”
  • HE BOUGHT THEM A HOUSE TOGETHER THE SECOND SHE SHE AGREED TO COME TO NEW YORK. IM SCREAMING
  • “You’re building me an observatory?” I nodded. “It’s not round, but… yes” Her eyes filled with tears that soon streamed down her face.”
  • “Jupiter Reeves, my first love. The man I knew for certain was my only real love; my true love.”
  • HES MAKING A PINTEREST BOARD FOR THEIR NEW HOUSE IM SCREAMING
  • HE JUST SAID I LOVE YOU
  • “Do you remember the first time you introduced me to the Milky Way? The first time we watched it together and I saw a shooting star?”  She tore her eyes away from the sky and met mine, with a nod and a broad smile. “I wished for you.”

This is my first read from Lulu and it will not be my last because I did not want to put this down, it had me giddy and shedding a few happy tears

I love a good second chance romance! I liked how you saw how Jupiter and Marnie were between the past and present. This story was so heartbreaking I couldn't put my kindle down through most of the book. I loved how Jupiter and Marine loved each other despite all the heartbreak and time apart. Jupiter melted my heart at everything he did for Marine even though she wanted nothing to do with him at the beginning. To me, Jupiter and Marnie are soulmates hands down. I couldn't stop smiling throughout this book, and the ending was so damn cute! This is my first baseball romance and I can't wait to read more of them. I can't wait so the rest of this series comes out, and read more of Lulu Moore's books!
