Really enjoyed this prequel! It is so well written that you don't need to to have read the two books already released that come after it in the timeline but you will want to. If you have read Fable and Namesake then you will already be invested in Saint and Isolde and I guess Clove. These younger versions show us how their story started and gives so much more depth to their character and background to their story that it captivates you. It is laced with a will they wont they (even though you know if you have read Fable & Namesake) but there is actually very little written romance, it just fizzling chemistry.
I listened to the audio version and enjoyed listening to the narrators.
I received this audio ARC for free through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This was really good. I would say the only thing I didn't like was that it was written with alternating POVs, told in first person. That can really get confusing for me because I forget which character I'm reading, and then have to go back and check the chapter heading.
Ahhh so good. I think I might have to reread Fable and Namesake now

Back into the Narrows, the smell of the ocean and the sounds of the waves brings you back into the world of Fable as we get a deeper dive into her parents lives before Fable came into the picture. We finally get to meet Saint and Isolde and read their story! I absolutely love this story and would love to have more! So many amazing insights and even more surprises that I wasn’t expecting!
(3.5 rating) This book was good... but I immediately felt sad when I was reminded that Saint and Isolde do not end up really having that happy ending together. This book introduces the characters to each other. It was nice having some things clarified but the romance between the two felt a little weak. In fact, the romance in the whole series has always been weak and you feel a deeper connection between other relationships such as Saint and Fable and Clove and Saint. I feel like her romance barely misses the mark somehow and I'm not sure why. I wanted a little bit more from the book. It would have been nice if it spanned a little bit more into their early life together and maybe even included Fable as a young child. That's when you felt like their love expanded. The ending of Namesake when Saint claimed his daughter was so breathtaking I had chills.... I can't really rate this book as the same as that one. It just did more for me. I did love that this book had 2 POVs. I love it when I know exactly what the other is thinking. The series is still beloved to me, and I savored the additional information about Fables parents. It was the start of Saint's empire and his vision for the Narrows. I just wish Saint had his happy ending... and in the end Fable missed out on the love from both her parents.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND BITTERSWEET LITTLE BOOK. I CRIED SO MANY TIMES.

This book is well written and lush but it’s clearly a book for vibes. Not that I’m mad at, I haven’t read the duology but this did give me an itch to.

This was a fun dive into the past! I really enjoyed getting to read Saint and Isolde’s love story. I felt that the beginning was pretty slow, but it picked up steam towards the middle.
