i would like to eat alex walter. thank you for coming to my ted talk
This book filled me with nostalgia from the time I'd read the wattpad version in 2017. I absolutely loved it. I'm not going to lie, I wish Isaac had more of an appearance in the book. I think it'd have been a really great plot idea. And Lee's reason for "hating" Jackie could've been explained earlier and in more depth. Such potential. The book's a little cringy at times but sometimes it's nice to just read something that's light-hearted, sweet and easy to read.

A part of me is super conflicted about this book. Even though there were so many things in this book that I did not like, there were more things to like in the later part of the story, though it does not really save the story all that much. I really did not like this book for the most part, more so than any other book I’ve disliked more recently. For starters, the very first thing that really put me off about the book were the characters, particularly the Walter boys. I was immediately put off by how insufferable the majority of them are, treating Jackie terribly by icing her out and pulling some really questionable pranks on her (the shower curtain scene was particularly awful). The only Walter boys who were good all the way through were Will, Nathan, and Danny, because they were actually good people who treated her nicely and had actual friend chemistry with her (or any chemistry, really). Even though the Walter brothers get slightly better by the end and Jackie and them are all found family, and it did make the later parts nicer to read (the only reason I didn’t rate this book one star) there was little to no development in their relationship or character to get me on board with them, especially after all the terrible things they did (side eye Isaac). The only bad Walter whose development in general and with Jackie I buy is Parker. I honestly really liked seeing the more vulnerable side to her and learning why she acts all tough and not-like-other-girls, and bonding more with Jackie through opening up near the end. Too bad it’s right near the end, only lasts one scene, and they don’t have any more scenes together later. The entire first two-thirds of the book, I was filled with an unholy rage by almost everything the Walter boys did. I don’t think I’ve hated characters this vehemently in a long time. They weren’t the only characters I didn’t like, though. I couldn’t take Jackie’s friends that seriously because their only personality traits were obsessing over the Walter boys. They were very annoying, and I did not care for them. Kim was the only one of the bunch who had common sense and personality traits, and that made me love her (nice breath of fresh air in this book). The plot was also non-existent. Pretty much nothing happens over the course of the book other than the weak romance plot, which I didn’t really care about. It also exudes its bad Wattpad origins from every pore. It really ramps up the Wattpad-ness. The ending is also very rushed and abrupt, but I liked the majority of Jackie’s ending. And gosh, that’s all I have to say about the plot because of how little there was in it; I couldn’t think of anything else if I wanted to. I also found Jackie and Cole to have no chemistry whatsoever. They just don’t click. They’re only together because he’s the hot local bad boy and she’s the shy and nerdy girl who’s not like the other girls. It also ties into the issues of the characters with how Cole is not a likeable character, and I really don’t like him/can’t root for him after the things he did on the book. Jackie is also not a character I like or dislike; I don’t have too much to say about her because I feel very neutral about her and her writing. There are some decent moments, and she’s not the most well-written, but I didn’t hate her like the other characters. Overall, this book had so many things in it that I really, REALLY did not like, and I feel that it could have been improved on vastly of the characters were much more likeable and the story were not a romance.
Okay why did this lowkey slay..
I'd rather shoot myself than watch the movie though.
