idk if i've written a review on bttm but i recall rating it high and i want to take that back soooo this is kind of a review for both books yay
i rated bttm a 4.75 because i really love the vibes and how it references some of my favourite romcom movies and it is a cute and fun little romance book. but now that i've read ntlm, i can't help but think that maybe my rating was too influenced by the people on tiktok saying they really really love this book, so i'm dropping it to a 3.5 since 4.75 is a bit too generous.
anywayyy, i hate this book sooooo much. i don't get why we need it when we were already happy and in love??? wes is such a red flag and nobody can convince me otherwise! (NO NOT EVEN THATBREAKING UP WITH LIZ BECAUSE HE CARES FOR HER BULLSHIT ) i hate it whenever i turn the page and i see his pov and i hate how liz was only lips, legs, and chanel no. 5 to him. every time he talks about liz he gets super fucking creepy about it. and don't get me started with the writing. it was just so messy and all over the place and if i have to read another "oh god" and "dammit" i'm gonna pull my hair out. i wanted to dnf this so bad but i only had like 50 pages left and those 50 pages weren't any better.

I don't know how to say this, but I didn't like itđ
"Better than the movies" should be a stand alone, it wasn't necessary this book, I'm sorryđ
Throughout the whole book I was always waiting for it to end.
I just liked the last 10 chapters because they were having their moments and that is what I was expecting about this book, but that was just at the end.

liz buxbaum and wes bennet
(pt 2)
holy shit, if i had to use one single song to describe this book, itâd be âtwo ghostsâ by harry.
yeah, itâs that intense.
(also, honorable mention to âin betweenâ by gracie)
my babies didnât deserve to suffer this much! lynn put them through the gutter but i felt like it made their relationship foundation better and stronger in the end (but oh how it hurt to get there)
the only thing missing would be a bigger epilogue. i want more happy scenes. please.
âIâm not sure if things got quiet or loud, blurry or hyperfocused, but I know the universe changed as I looked at Liz, everything melting into impressionistic streaks of fuzzy background colors.â
-
âHe threw his head back and laughed, and even though I couldnât hear it over the noise, I knew exactly what it sounded like. A laugh Iâd recognize anywhere. God, I hated him for looking that good. He wasnât allowed to look that good.â
-
âHey, Buxbaum,â I managed, which was ludicrous. There was so much history between us, a million I love yous and a thousand stolen kisses, yet the two words I managed to piece together in her presence were the same words I might use to say hi to any random stranger who shared her last name.
-
âGodâthe way he was watching me made butterflies go wild in my stomach, because he looked at me like he knew me better than anyone else in the world, like he was seeing my every thought and remembering our every moment. His gaze not only saw through me, but it wrapped itself around me like a pair of strong arms. His gaze was more than familiar. His gaze was home.â
-
âWant. What a ridiculous word. Because the want that I felt when sheâd lifted her lips to me like an offering was so much greater than four pathetic letters. I mean, people wanted things like coffee and new cars, right? How could the same word be used for what I felt when she looked at my mouth? It couldnât. The English language had yet to create a word that could capture my level of frenzied, desperate need.â
-
âI heard Wesâs laugh right after we arrived. I couldnât see him, but his laugh was unmistakable. I could close my eyes and be so many places with that laugh. That laugh was the cohesive thread, the little recurring melody that showed up in so many scenes of my life, like Mia and Sebastianâs theme in La La Land. Always there, playing in the background.â
-
âEverything about the kiss had felt like coming home, like a reunion, like some kind of agreement had been reached. That kiss had been the heroine and hero, running toward each other while the music crescendoed. That kiss had been Elizabeth Bennett telling Darcy that his hands were cold. That kiss, God help me, had been the one that lets you know the characters are finally going to end up together.â
-
âI love you. Of course I love you; youâre Wes. You are the only boy Iâve ever loved in my entire life. I think Iâve loved youâwithout stoppingâsince you set me on the trunk of my car after prom and kissed me at 12: 13.â
-
âPromise this is real?â I nodded, so happy that it felt a little painful. âI promise. If we were in a movie, the first notes of the closing song would be starting this very minute.â âOh, yeah?â he asked, smiling as he squeezed my hand. âWhat song would it be, Buxbaum?â ââ One and Onlyâ by Adele,â
