Charlotte's Web

This children's story is an example of friendship, sacrifice, and compassion.

I remember seeing "Charlotte's Web" as an animated movie when I was about seven years old. I remember the fear and anxiety for the pig Wilbur's life and the bottemless grief over Charlotte. That the book did not evoke the same emotions lies more in my age than in the book itself. I'm too old. I should have read this 28 years ago. Then again I did not buy this book for myself, I will give it to my niece who is just the right age (seven going on eight) to properly absorb and appreciate the content of it.

A truly wonderful story.
lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

I'm 27 years old, and I've just read Charlotte's Web. Though I grew up knowing the story, there is an ache and beauty to White's words that I would not have understood or appreciated as a child. As an adult, I can savor the words, the expressions, and the images filling the pages of the slim volume. I miss Charlotte already.

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White could very well be why I am a Children's Book Publicist as a profession. I read this book so many times as a child that the pages were falling out. One of the first books that I added to my kids book shelf as an adult. Can't wait to read this to my daughter.

The parallels between Charlotte, her spiders and Fern are subtle but such a wonderful discovery in rereading this as an adult.

First classic chapter book with C.S.

Wilbur the pig is the runt of the litter, saved by the farmer's daughter, Fern, she raises him until he is sent to her uncle's farm. Although Fern visits him most days, Wilbur is lonely and asks for a friend to keep him company, he gets one in the form of Charlotte, a large grey spider.
As it becomes clear that Wilbur is destined for Christmas lunch, Charlotte comes up with an ingenious idea to save him.
This touches upon some serious issues for a kids book, death; which is spoken of frequently, friendship and making sacrifices for those you love but most of all that life is precious no matter how long or short your time is here.
A wonderful story for both children and adults and probably the only time I will even cry over the death of a spider.

I read this book back in the day and it was my favourite thing for the longest time! Going to search for my copy later so I can have a reread!
