Read with my son. Reading it again as an adult, I was struck by how beautiful White’s prose is.

It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly why I love this book so much. On the surface, "Charlotte's Web" is simply a children's story about the friendship between a spider and a pig. However, there seem to be many more subtle layers than that, which suggests that there is something more complex taking place within the book.

I love the relationship between Fern and Wilbur, and consequently with Wilbur and Charlotte. The themes of unconditional, Christ-like love between these three characters really resonates with me. In many ways this book is also a coming-of-age story, a book about miracles, believing in yourself, birth, life and even death, and the great circle of life.

"You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs, for you because I like you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little, we die...By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift my life up a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that."

It's this remarkable power of friendship however, that is the most prevalent (and important) throughout this sweet story.

Really, what's not to love? Talking animals,fighting injustice, saving a friend.
A true childhood classic. Keep giving it to your children until they read it and love it. :)

I recently re-read this aloud to my 5-year-old and he loved it. It was his first read aloud without illustrations (though our version was large print and did have some illustrations) and I was nervous that he wouldn't follow or have patience, but he was very into it. Such a wonderful book!

I read this aloud to my six year old son and he loved it. He was always wanting to read more. What a great first children's book!
