The Secret

May Archer

4.14 AVERAGE

4.5* of wonderful characters.
What I love about this series is that all the couples are getting together and showing the readers different perspectives and starts to their relationships around a similar timeline and events, whether those events directly impact them or not. This book is gorgeous with an frienemy to lovers theme, along with keeping their relationship a secret, the characters are in keeping and are as well written as in previous books. Con with his playful, fun, deflecting attitude used to hide his real emotions and Micah with his seriousness and I have a plan attitude make the perfect foil for each other giving exactly what is needed.
I really enjoyed this one, especially when a parent finally realises that their children are adults and can make up their own minds. Well done May Archer I can’t wait for the next one.

I wept at multiple points at sheer love and empathy and deep, gutural, understanding of one Constantine Ross.

Rating: ♾️/5

A just okay romance story. Both characters in the pairing bugged me at times but towards the end the growth Constantine finally took was goo.

3.5 rounded up.

I've been struggling with connecting with this series, but the summary of this one seemed right up my alley so I decided to persevere, and I'm glad I did, as this is the best one of the series by a long shot, IMO.

I loved Micah and Con, and their whole dynamic really worked for me here. I thought the development of their relationship was lovely, and the whole thing just really worked for me!

And, unlike with the other books in the series, I didn't find O'Leary and the random-ass background characters as pervasive and annoying as usual. It's still a little OTT, but it felt more manageable here than in the others. I think it helps that one of the biggest books that it overlaps with, the novella The Note, is not one I've read nor have interest in reading. It was clear there were references happening in this one that applied to that book, which was annoying, but easy to ignore.

This book was really good and I really liked the characters!

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was Constantine’s mother. She comes across as a controlling meddling shrew and by the end we’re supposed to believe everyone gets along? Okay...

But everything else was great and the narration was fantastic! Definitely will be continuing this series!

Did I stay up all night to finish reading this even though I've already read it? Yes, yes I did. Do I have any regrets about going to work on less than three hours of sleep? No, no I do not.

Micah and Constantine - all the swoons

I just loved Micah and Constantine’s enemies to lovers, opposites attract with a side of age gap story. And visiting the quirky, nosy small town of O’Leary is always so fun. This book is a fantabulous story full of love, drama, silliness, and secrets. Micah and Constantine are real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best as messy fallible humans. Constantine is a 24 year part-time small town cop and part-time landscaper in his family’s business. He is also always happy and no one takes him seriously. Micah is a 40 year old who owns a successful florist business. He opened his shop in O’Leary and is in competition with Con’s family business. Micah is always serious and driven. Micah and Constantine snipe at each other but there is attraction and the universe, in the shape of an overheard conversation, has them working together which cycles up their chemistry and starts their HEA journey. There is a lot of growth for Micah and Constantine on their way to their HEA including examining long held beliefs about who they are and what they want out of life. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet, sexy, hilarity, swoons, healing, grief, redemption, and so much love. Expect to feel all the things - you’ll laugh, cry, swoon, groan, and gasp. I am excited to read more in the series and I really wish I could visit O’Leary.

Omg!!!! This was perfection!!! I love Micah and Constantine soooo much! They truly are different sides of the same coin!!!! Just perfect!!! Omg!!!! My heart!

I want to read this entire series no matter what so even though I normally don't like enemies to lovers OR secret relationships, I made myself read this one. And yeah, it had all the sneaking and lying and miscommunication that I don't like. But Constantine was also vulnerable and needed Micah, and I'm definitely a sucker for hurt/comfort. I liked the age-gap, and even though I'm all about daddy books etc that lean into that part of age gap, I like that one was present here but didn't really play a huge role in the storyline. Like, both Micah and Con knew there was a 16 year age gap, and a couple of times they wondered if it would be an issue, but it wasn't a big thing. And sometimes I just want that because sometimes that just how life is.

There weren't really many O'Leary town antics in this one sadly, maybe because everything was secret or maybe because this one ran congruent with the other books so those antics couldn't be added after the fact. We did have drama with Con's mom and even though I didn't really love her in the last book, she redeemed herself at least by the end of this one. Being protective of your kids is great, but once they are adults, they need to be free to make their own mistakes and live their own lives, and I wanted to shake Constantine for letting his mom lead the show for so long.

Overall, it wasn't my favorite book in the series, but I did enjoy it.
