This is not a thriller, not a mystery, and honestly a disgrace to be called either.
I’ve read Lisa Jewell before and liked some of her work, but this one? Absolutely hated it.
There’s nothing redeeming here. I kept reading only to see how far this unbelievably stupid plot would stretch. The answer: very far.
The villain is the most obvious, disturbing man imaginable, yet somehow manages to fly under the radar until 65% in because he’s hot for his age? Characters are gaslit to the point of absurdity and this drags on until nearly the end. Even in the final chapters, the ridiculous charade doesn’t stop.
If you enjoy reading the most transparent cons play out endlessly while every single character buys the most childish excuses time and time again, then maybe this is for you.
Otherwise, save yourself the frustration.

Interesting read, but the end where we find out He wrote the letters to Ash that caused her mental breakdown and bpd diagnosis just seemed like it was thrown in there to make him even more of a bad guy. I do like how the author is able to write from multiple timelines and helped to dive into the mindset of the antagonist. I enjoyed it but the end felt a bit lackluster.

This took me ages to listen to because I haven't been able to run, which didn't help. It was generally good, but I really hated the last five or ten percent of this book. The idea of all of the victims and survivors meeting up with him at a remote location was meant to be empowering but it was so, so irresponsible and they are lucky no one got seriously injured. The ending was only saved by the epilogue
