Had me hooked and the premise is great, but it's just toooo much! Too many sound effects, too much explanation of how horrible something is. What is going on is in fact extremely horrible, so we don't need to keep being told how scared the protagonist is and how close to Lovecraftian madness everybody is. Also, the premise of the 'Gets disease is greatly underused. It feels like a missed opportunity, and the inventive gore and over-the-top yuckiness doesn't make up for it.

as someone with pretty intense thalassophobia and claustrophobia i knew this book was gonna fuck with me before i even started it. but holy shit.
there were parts of this book that felt slightly incoherent and drug on, but i have to give it five stars due to the fact that this is the first book to ever make me feel that level of irrational childlike terror. and i’ve read a lot of extreme horror and some plainly fucked up shit.
you either love or hate nick cutter/ his style. but I think he’s brilliant at writing effective horror. I loved the troop and was glad to finally pick this up.

I would give it 2.5 stars because it kept me engaged, but it is SO gory and descriptive in its goriness. It gave me nightmares and I felt like I wanted to look away from the page at times! Great job at creating some real horror but it was too much for me.

My first Nick Cutter novel and this one was a wild ride I was glad to be a part of! Not perfect, the ending was a bit confusing and unclear, however I could not put it down. I will be checking out more of his work in the future 👍🏼

I can already tell that I'm going to hate this. It's Michael Crichton-esque, and I do not mean that as a compliment.
