I'll review this properly later (maybe)- but what I can say now that I have finished the story, I absolutely loved it. It was kind of adorable, and Brute is just... ugh... I can't get over it, you truly go along for the ride with him on his ups (which come later) and many downs. This book started out kind of depressing - you see how badly Brute is treated because he's a giant: 2m20 or something like that, which I admit is TALL. But, yeah let's get over it people. The way his villagers treated him I could not condone. I'm just glad it didn't take a 100 pages or sth. for him to get himself out of that hellhole and to the scene where the actual story starts.
I grew quite fond of Gray, and Warin and Alys.
But the love story of Brute & Gray, how they slowly but surely fall for each other.
I mean - there's the giant with one hand, who's "ugly" but has a heart of gold.
Then there's the blind prisoner tormented by his powers (predicting the deaths of those around him and living through each and every death every time he has a dream), who was also abused by his previous jailers and plainly mistreated on a lower than human level. You just feel like slapping some sense into some of the people you come across in this book. But, honestly I couldn't care less because I was too caught up in Brute & Gray.

*sigh* I do recommend this book, but It is on the cute and "huh suuuree, of course that's possible" side. But, I found it to be totally worth it.

Would’ve preferred a little more on-page scenes of caretaking and conversations of the MCs really getting to know each other and the rating definitely would’ve been higher if there was an epilogue, wanted to see them happily settled into their new life. Some parts really dragged and I almost lost interest a couple of times.

"—¡Soy tu carcelero!

—N… n… nadie puede quitarme estas cadenas. P… p… pero tú has liberado mi corazón."

Loved this story. Well developed and flawed characters, engaging story. Brute was such a special man.

DNF @ 75%. Started off strong.
Well written.
Got kind of boring and slow and couldn’t hold my interest. still overall good. Just not for me I suppose.

Beautiful, beautiful read with such an interesting and original plot and some very likable characters.

Such a beautiful story. Like a fairy tale that's a little rough around the edges. I loved the writing style and the pace of everything. Flowed well.

for some reason i thought this would be the most moving beautiful thing i’ve ever read but it was actually super uncomfortable and weird

Ahh such a good book! Wasn't entirely sure when I started but certainty hit me somewhere and I raced through to the end and almost cried when I thought I still had 2% of story left on my Kindle but didn't because that was reserved for other stuff.

Anywho... as many reviewers have commented this story has a fairytale feel to it and while the romance is strong and beautiful, I loved how the story brought out other elements like what true bravery and courage is, and the importance of kindness in what can be an ugly and cruel world. I really enjoy stories where not all the characters are good looking or sexy in some way - their relationships seem more real and the struggles they have to find acceptance within themselves and with others is more relatable.

Brute was a well fleshed out character, his humbleness and tendency to blurt out his feelings and thoughts were really endearing. His kindness to his prisoner was believable, touching and wholly within his character. Gray also really grew on me. He went from broken and meek to sharp tongued and fierce and I loved his protectiveness over Brute. I thought the way he pictured his lover and the continuous references to the guardian stone figures a lovely touch.

The supporting characters were all lovely and it would be nice to revisit everyone again to see where they're at. That would be my main criticism - that we were introduced to a wonderful cast of side characters but we sort of abruptly leave them.

A rather sweet story.
Not my favorite because it was a bit too slow.
