I know this is considered a classic but I could never get into it. My parents tried to read it to me when I was a little girl and I had no interest. I tried to read it again a few years ago, as an adult, and still couldn't get past the first 50 pages. Guess it's just not for me.
3.5 stars. It grew on me. Didn’t love it, but I can see some of the appeal for others. Book 1 of the Read Harder Challenge done!

I really enjoyed the first few chapters. Mole going out to make friends and learning about the river was fun. Meeting Badger and venturing into the woods was interesting. Toad was entertaining.
But about midway through it lost me. There were sections that seemed unnecessary or confusing. Then the whole thing with Toad got annoying. It ended abruptly and wasn’t very satisfying to me. I guess I can see why it’s a beloved story and I’m glad I read it, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

When it comes to childhood nostalgia and just reading a feel good book, The Wind in the Willows does the trick. This is only my second time reading it in my life, but I use to watch the classic claymation film when I was younger and I always loved it. I just watched it again after 20 years or so once finishing the book and it still holds up.
The book is the simple adventures of Rat, Mole, Toad, and Mr. Badger and their life on the riverbank and the wildwood. It's often very humorous and carefree. Just a feel-good book.

I first met Toad of Toad Hall aged 6 or 7, in a play for kids at Bolton Little Theatre and read the book when a little older.
I remember the humour but wasn't prepared for the poetry.
The passage when Rat meets the Seafaring Rat was lyrical and moving. I was transported by not only the words but Cush Jumbo's voice.
