Loved this story especially after I realized how different it was from the cartoon and abridged versions.

What an absolutely charming book. I somehow missed this one as a child, and took the opportunity to listen to the audiobook (narrated by Michael Hordern) while cleaning. I smiled almost continuously as I listened, breaking only when I needed to laugh out loud. Would be a wonderful audiobook for a family roadtrip, and one I can't wait to re-experience with the kids.

Lovely to revisit this, a favourite from when I was a kid. I can't believe I was such a fan of toad - what a criminal villain!  Couldn't get enough of river rat and badger this time around.
Love the friendship, love the reflections on winter restfulness, do not love the wildly overt sexism.

Geen wonder dat dit een klassieker is. Wat een mooie, toegankelijke verhalen over Mol, Rat, Das en Pas. Zeker een aanrader.

One hundred and ten years later, the lyrical prose and lovable characters in The Wind in The Willows acts on me like soul-medication. I recommend taking regularly in times of stress. Reading this classic (especially aloud) will lower your blood pressure, improve your mood, and renew your faith in your fellow animals.

Some really enjoyable chapters and some gorgeous writing. A bit like a lot of books of that era there are whole chapters that seem not only not part of the overall story but also slightly detached altogether.

Charming, loving characters! Enjoyed reading along with the Literary Life podcast group. They make every read delightful and insightful.

"Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" is the first ride I ever went on in Disney World, at 3 years old, and I cried! To be fair, in the ride, your car crashes and you go to hell, which is hilarious to think about, now as an adult. A children's ride!

The book does not have such a fatalistic streak. In fact, it's quite nice to spend time with these animal friends and their adventures, and I can see why the book is considered a classic. The illustrations are also very good, especially the ones with Toad.
