giving this book a 5 star since this pulled me out of my reading slump!

this book is the type of the slow-burn i love. i typically hate slow-burn, because how impatient i am. i normally hate it when the male character is overly grumpy and is a dickhead somehow from the start.

but this book, this book is everything.

i love how reiner 'the king' kulti's character development is. we can see how he was learning about sal. he is the perfect book boyfriend for the 'sport romance' section other than ryan shay from the right move for me. he is indeed the king. and sal... sal is so me. i don't blame her for mooning over kulti at first, even after he somehow broke her brother's leg. and i don't blame her how she turned out to hate kulti at first. as i said, he was a dickhead and he needed to learn some manners. i love how brave she is. how she and her self control, even when she could get angry sometimes. but she resembles me. i want to be like her. and i love her dad! i wish i was his daughter too, hehe. her dad is a perfect parental and father figure.

i also love how even it has đŸœđŸ”„ the author doesn't give any over spiciness and it's still on normal level for me. nothing so toxic and so kinky on the mature scenes. i also love each characters here. there's some friendship and love here.

my favourite quote: destiny is a ladder, a series of steps that takes you where you’re supposed to go.

kulti, you're the king.

So so so good. Writing, plot, characters, ending—no notes.

“I’ve been waiting, and I will keep on waiting until the time is right. You are my equal, my partner, my teammate, my best friend. I’ve done so many stupid things that you’ve made me regret—things I hope you will forgive me for and look beyond— but this, waiting a little longer for the love of my life, I can do."

I loved everything about this book. Both the characters and the story were complex, but it was written with so much eloquence and heart that it flowed very smoothly. Love Sal and Kulti they were perfect for each other.

SLOWWWWWWWWW BURN

4.5 stars rounded up.
I've been putting off reading books by the so called "queen of slow burn" because I'm impatient by nature, and the idea of waiting until nearly the very end of the book before the main characters even kiss is anathema to me. However, I finally took the plunge when I saw the book was available on the audible plus catalogue, and it was worth the punt. I liked the characters, the dialogue, the angsty moments and the beautiful romance that grows between Kulti and Sal.

Have I been converted in regards to slow-burn romances? Nah. Strangely enough, when the bedroom scene finally occurred, it felt a little off. I can't put my finger on why, but having gone through hundreds of pages of repressed feelings, when things eventually came to a head, it felt anticlimatic. Is it heretical if I say the story would have been better without the inclusion of a sex scene at the end? Probably. Also, I'm not a fan of stringing things out so long, and I would have preferred the book to be a few hundred pages shorter (or in my case as I listened to it on audible, a few hours shorter). Nevertheless, a solidly engaging story.

i love me a good slow burn and this was as slow as it can get without being a series. loved their banter and the nicknames were just too cute. i wasnt even that weirded out by the age gap.
