This book started out to be my least favorite of the series. The beginning seems rushed or thrown together. It's missing depth and details that the other books have. However, this is the only book that had me in tears twice and rooting for Hardin at one point and Tessa at another. Anna Todd captured Tessa's downward spiral into nothingness very well. I could feel her pain. I wish there was more on the release of Hardin's burdens - the root of his anger. I thought this revelation is important to set up for the rest of his story. I don't know why Tessa was mad about Hardin writing the book. Once she read it and nothing happened I was on team Hardin. His character showed huge transformations and waiting for Tessa to be ready was heartbreaking. There are so many life lessons in this series and I'm happy that everything worked out in the end, but I wish the ending had some of Hardin's rawness from the first book. The ending is almost too perfect for the characters.

Okay so this is a series I would recommend to someone looking for a trashy fanfiction romance novel. Because that’s all this series is. However, that being said, it’s enjoyable as a book series in the trashy romance genre. I liked it enough to buy copies and read the entire thing. It just doesn’t blow my mind.

There isn’t a whole lot of substance to the plot. It’s mainly the two main characters finding a whole lot of reasons to scream at each other and have hate sex or makeup sex or breakup sex.  The characters are nothing less than toxic, but that’s the intention of the book. I don’t really think the chain of events really has the best flow, and I think if either of these characters existed in reality, they would both be truly insufferable. But when you’re in the mood for a poolside read, this would be something you could pick up and not have the worst time reading.

I say all this as someone who was wildly obsessed with this series as it was coming out. Both in book and movie form. I own copies of every book in this series and use them as poolside or beach reads on occasion. They’re not bad. They’re just not great.

I decided to read this book as I enjoyed the series and I wanted to know what was going to happen after the events of the last book.

This book still follows Tessa and Hardin. Hardin has just received some shocking truth about his family, and it shakes him to the core. Then Tessa ends up suffering from a sudden loss. As the truth about each of their families comes to the surface, these two are not so different from each other. Tessa is no longer the sweet, innocent girl we met in the first book. Hardin is not as cruel and moody as we got to know. But the more that they learn about each other the dark their thoughts both go. They both start to push each other away. Tessa doesn’t know if she should fight for him or fight for herself.

My favourite bits of this book were Hardin’s chapters. I liked the additional point of views within this book. It was a good insight to see how he was feeling and what he was doing. I love Hardin’s humour; I think I relate to it more with him being British and being able to picture the British accent whilst he is talking. However, this book drove me nuts. This book could have been ended in like five chapters just by both of them communicating with everyone – not just between the pair of them! Obviously, I know this is just the storyline of the book, but I really wanted to bang their heads together. I know this isn’t a healthy relationship but my emotions in this book when from wanting to drag Tessa away or from them to kiss and make up. I feel like I need a therapy session from this especially after the rollercoaster of emotions. I enjoyed the ending and seeing Tessa loosen up and realising she needed to focus on herself, and that Hardin managed a whooping two years without seeing her every day!

I shouldn’t have liked this book as much as I did. Purely because of the anger I felt. However, I really did enjoy the storyline and I enjoyed the series overall.
