This story was not nearly as interesting or well-developed as the first three in this series. I actually don’t understand why it is considered part of a series, it had no connection at all to the three previous books.

Life isn't always as we perceive it. Ginny aka Zinny as a young person, begins the novel realizing her stable one child marriage is probably ending. Her husband Harris says things she cannot fathom. Worrying for her fifteen year old daughter, Ginny turns to her harsh, sick mother, her friends at the dog park, and her best friend Kirsten. Through journal flashbacks we discover Zinny's transition to Ginny, her teenage romance, and the tragic secret that changed everything. This novel explores the lengths people go to to protect others as well as themselves. It also details forgiveness and the stages we go through to get there.

I love this author and reading this book right now was like wrapping up in a comfy blanket or putting on your favorite fuzzy sweatshirt. De los Santos’ writing just seems to get to me. I loved when one of the characters talked about her home and how it filled her with peace and how she would drive around with her mom when she couldn’t sleep but “that was why she left in the first place, not to get away, but so that she could come back and be home.”

Marisa de los Santos is one of my favorite authors. I have struggled to finish books lately, but picked this up and the joy of neglecting other tasks in order to finish a good book came surging back. The mother/daughter relationship between Zinny and Avery was perhaps too "easy" (okay, maybe idyllic) but I don't think the book could have handled conflict on another front, so I'm happy to overlook that.

Marisa de los Santos's books are just so easy to love and this one is no exception. I always get so excited whenever she has a new book out because I know I will have a great time reading it! From the beautiful writing to funny dialogue, it has a bit of everything. This one is a bit different than her other novels in that it was really heavily centred around a theme (truth and forgiveness), whereas I felt like her other books were more plot or character-driven. Don't get me wrong, there was still a well done central plot, and loveable characters, but the theme just seemed the most emphasised to me. In a less skilled hand this could come off as preachy, but it did not here. Like I said, I loved the characters, especially the main characters, and the side characters Adela (hard to write such a complicated character in a loving way), Gray and Daniel. If anything, my criticisms would be that Kirsten comes off as somewhat one-dimensional (unrealistically nice -- a lot of her best friend characters can be this way though), and it felt strange to me that Ginny's financial situation barely came up (I guess we can assume
Spoilershe has the inheritance and is getting financial support from Harris but I am pretty sure she is a homemaker and I would think she'd worry even just a little bit about how the divorce would affect her and Avery's finances?
). However, neither was enough to detract from enjoying the book!

Stayed up late to finish this one. I just love this author and will read anything she writes. I love how she builds and transforms characters and walks us with them on their journeys of friendship, love, loss, etc

Marisa de los Santos does it again. I’ve loved her from the moment I read “Love Walks In” and have reread her books multiple times.

Her characters in this book are, as usual, well thought out and relatable. This book is ultimately about how keeping secrets can be detrimental to everyone involved. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!
