I finished this book a few days ago and needed to collect my thoughts before writing a review because it just blew me away.
This is the 8th instalment of The Broken Kingdoms series, you will need to have read the other books to understand the storyline. If you're caught up, you'll know that this books picks up with Ari in basically an induced coma while they try and find a cure to Davorin's darkness which he was infected with at the end of Den of Blades and Briars
This book sees all four kingdoms start to unite against this threat to them all, as well as revealing lots of big secrets that change the world as our heroes know it.
When I say I have never highlighted a book more, I am not exaggerating! I was making notes on my theories all the way through, changing as more secrets were revealed and my theories changed.
I got to a point where I thought "okay what are you saving for book 9 because I think I've sussed it?!"
Spoiler: I hadn't!
The bits I thought I knew all changed, and even the things I DID know had more levels and secrets hiding away, so that I was left at the end of the book with some answers but also so many more questions!!
As always, I loved LJ's storytelling and world building, she has a way of dragging you right into the story so that you are living the adventure with them and I am so glad that there are spin-offs and next-gen stories planned because I will never be ready to say goodbye to this world she has created!
I'm trying ti find a few of my favourite quotes that won't give anything away, but it's so hard because the best bits are those "OMG!" moments, and this book is absolutely full of them!
This line keeps giving my goosebumps, and I don't think it spoils it...
"Is this the part where it begins?"
"Where what begins?"
Forbi looked over her shoulder, a vicious smirk on her lips.
"The end."
And, because, Ari, bringing his main character energy and demanding his own tale.
"You started all this, but you simply can't be the favourite in every tale. Certainly not when it is mine."

This book is so tense! I knew that we could expect some level of victory but it is so stacked against the heroes that it was very stressful!
I love how all the strands of fate are coming together. I love Malin and Kase but Elise and Valen had been my favourite, but Ari and Saga are really pushing to join at the top!
I love Calista and am glad we will get more of her story. I think that its going to be very stressful! But I'm looking forwards to it. I think Wraithe will be the mad king.
