Miután molyon láttam egy olyan értékelést, hogy ez a danmei wuxia/xianxia kedvelőinek kicsit kevés nem túl nagy elvárásokkal vágtam bele az olvasásába, de elsőre a Fertő tó körbebiciklizésen elolvasva a prológust még annyira sem győzött meg, mint számítottam rá. Aztán valamelyik nap ismét elővettem és azonnal beszippantott. Egyszerű, kedves történet, aranyos tiniszerű karakterekkel és nem túl kiszámíthatatlan cselekménnyel. Nyilván a hossza miatt nem számíthatunk különösebben nagy csavarokra, de a végén a főgonosz azért csak meglepett egy kicsit. Nem sikerült teljesen kitalálnom, mi fog történni, de nem is bánom. Élveztem végig, a karaktereket megkedveltem. Különösen jó élmény volt, a szerzőnek már az első könyve is nagyon tetszett, de ez abszolúte meggyőzött arról, hogy a jövőben is mindig el fogom olvasni az új könyveit.

This was such a sweet and cute little book. I generally enjoy Chinese mythology but this was amazing. Very easy to get through and keeps you wondering what happens next. I picked it up because of its cover in all honesty, but after reading the back, i knew I’d like it. It was truly an enjoyable experience.

You could give this book anything between 3,5 and 4,5 stars and it would be fair. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but it has its flaws.
Both plot and characters were fine. Not overwhelming, but fine. It's a standalone novel, so it's fairly limited in what it can do, but I thought that what it did, it did well enough. The characters were lovable, if a bit flat and sometimes stereotypical, and the plot was engagin, even if it was fairly predictable. I appreciate that there was a happy ending, even if it didn't look like it for a while.

Not too bad, but this book falls into the trap of almost every tale (since it's inspired by a legend): it lacks depth. Everything is too easy, and as a result, the attempt at angst is a failure. We don't understand how or why the characters fall in love, and I didn't even like them (Zhen was empty and Xian a hot-blooded jerk). It would have been better if Zhen had really died. Anyway, it was still entertaining to discover a bit of Chinese culture, and the prose was correct.
