I liked the characters in this book and the rich descriptions of culture and setting, so much so that I could ignore the insta-lovey aspects of the relationships. But the plot went a little off the rails, and I found that the characters often acted in hypoctitical ways that lacked nuance (even for seventeen year olds). I would probably read this book again, and would probably be just as frustrated with the second half of the novel the second time around!

I loved everything about this book! The inclusion of ancient Chinese customs, the banter between Zhen and Xian, the emotional wreck it left me in.
